I would give about $50

I remember the Kmarts, just not the apple dumpling.
When we were first married 45 years ago, and I had started college i worked in a Car dealership. Friday nights I sweapt all the floors and rinsed down the body and service bay floors for an extra 10 bucks a week for our date night. Then we would meet at ponderosa and have their 2 dinners and unlimited salad bar for like $5 with a coupon. Thrn we stopped at Kmart and picked up 2 of the apple dumplings for a buck apiece I think it was, been a long time. That was desert on ice cream. That caramel sauce was like candy crack, my god it was good.

Miss those plain cheap simpler days, healthy days.

I remember the lunch counter at WalMart. The best sub sandwiches I ever ate.
They did have good subs. I remember Kmart had these sandwiches on hamburger buns with two slices of honey ham and a sliceof American cheese. They were i believe $2.50 for 5 of them in a baggie. We would get them add mustard and that along with a quarter bag of chips or frito were my lunch every day.

We had a kmart but it was too far out of the way for mom. We used to go to Bradlees, which was a Kmart knock off. Used to buy all our sneakers from a big metal bin and could only try on one shoe at a time because they were tied together with plastic. 🤣

Walking home from school, my buddy and I used to stop in at K-Mart; usually to cool down for a bit. As we got older, our vandalistic tendencies emerged. We'd get a couple of carts and then go from one end of the store to the other loading up with random stuff. Once the carts were thoroughly overloaded, we'd leave them somewhere and then giggle our fool rears off about the fact that some poor sap would spend an entire shift putting all that stuff away. Well, we lived in a small town where everyone knew everyone else's parents. About our third time of cart loading fun, my mom took us right back to the K-Mart where she presented us to the store manager. Guess what my friend and I did for the next 10 hours? You guessed it! We put everything from our latest carts back where everything belonged and then spent the balance of our "shift" front & facing merchandise and putting clothes on hangers. Ohhh how I miss the good old days!

I only have one K-Mart story, but it's not a good one. From the age of about 11 until I was about 24 I had long hair, wore bellbottoms and generally looked like a shitbag. The old "Secret shoppers" used to like to follow me around stores since they thought I was likely to be shoplifting. I used to like to walk around until I spotted the "Secret shopper" tailing me, then I would grab something off the shelf, stuff it into my pocket and then turn the corner real quick and set it back down on another shelf. I thought it was funny. One time when I was maybe 13 or 14 a security guard decided rather than just searching me like they normally did he would forcibly detain me. As soon as he put his hands on me I punched him in the face then generally assaulted him. I ended up in a whole lot of trouble over that one. As I should have.

Like I said, my K-Mart story sucks. lol
