I'm not sure where this goes, but.....

I have several Springfield products, Hellcat PRO, Echelon, XD45, XD9 Mod 3, 2020 Rimfire, M1A Squad/Scout and 2 Hellcats (one black, one FDE). All except the Hellcats were bought new. My issue is with the Hellcat magazines.
I noticed one morning while getting dressed and doing my ritual press check, the FDE slide didn't return completely to battery. I double checked it with the same result. Now, to be clear, I could gently bump the back of the slide and it went right into battery. I haven't tried it while firing, but not wanting to take the chance, I replaced it with the black model. Everything worked as advertised with it.
When I got back home I disassembled the FDE model and gave it a thorough cleaning and? Same result. I had a spare mag, so I removed the mag that was in the gun and it worked like a champ! I removed the mag and lay it on my desk and that's when I noticed, that it looked different that the one I had removed.
I went to the Springfield website and looked at the Hellcat magazines and they showed BOTH types that I have. Attached, are pictures for comparison.
Here are the two side by side.....

Here are the magazines.....

And here is where the difference is. The mag on the right is the one causing the problem....

Has anyone else run into this? They are both 13 rounders.

Hi,

For grins and giggles, I went "shopping" for Hellcat mags.

In the link above you might notice the FDE mag and the black mag have differently shaped feed lips. I find that a little odd. But sometimes retail sites aren't very accurate.

Yeah, it's a slow day for me. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

That was the same thing I found, even on the Springfield site.

Hi Mr. @RCoulter52,

Wow. Good catch. This is very interesting. Does @xdman have any insight? Is there a difference between the Hellcat and Helcat Pro magazines? Just thinking out loud. The Hellcat is one SA product that I do not own. So I'll shut up before my ignorance shows too much. ;)

I have a PRO also, as well as an XD45, XD9 Mod 3, and an Echelon 4.0, and all 6 of my PRO 15 rounders are the same as the mag on the left in the picture.
One interesting point is that is the only 13 rounder I have that is made that way, BUT an 11 rounder that I have is the same as the one on the right! Things that make you go, Hmmmmmmm? 😂

Inline fixes that happen, could have been to update an issue or something as simple as the mothership discovered an easier way to do the manufacturing, or even an update. In the past one particular mag was updated for a small specific issue. In the 40SW that with one particular profile of bullet, one out of a hundred times loading it the second from the top round could hit the slide stop. But it wasn’t something that could be recreated every single time. They did an inline update to make sure it could not happen.

It could have also been testing that they wanted to update how the bullets present into the feed ramps, I remember one time that people who dropped the magazines onto concrete could bent the feed lips just enough to lower the angle causing feed issues, and a change was made to make it more robust.

Notice the crease on one magazine goes all the way up and the other doesn’t, that specific crease is what starts to move the double column into a single column to feed.

The OP’s issue of the slide not closing when press checking might be a weak recoil spring, that last 10% of travel is the weakest that progressive spring will be. I am wondering if one pistol is shot more than the other? An experiment he could try changing the springs and then magazines? See if the problem follows the guide rod or the magazines. Another possibility is the magazine pressure pushing the top round into the underside of the slide, I wonder if one is used more than the other?
