testtest

Introducing: The DANIEL H9

I’m know I’m an old goat, but I don’t buy anything “new” (just released). Let some of the “gotta have the latest thing now” kids do the beta testing. I’ll wait until it’s established itself as a reliable product thanks anyway. I had a shiney new AR from Colt way back when (complete with triangle handcarts, etc.-wouldn’t group in a barn door at 100 yards. Had a new S&W .22 Escort-wouldn’t feed/run reliably; bought a new Kimber Solo when they first came out. At the time I paid $1100 for it (more expensive than any handgun I’d bought at the time). Absolute POS-multiple trips to the mothership with zero problem resolution. Nope, I’ll wait until it’s a known quantity😊

Fair point and good all around advice. As far as ARs go I think the horse is out of the barn. Unless you buy that $380 Anderson ( which I bet money will still run like a champ) there isn't much to worry about. Nothing that can be wrong with an AR can't be fixed relatively simply and inexpensively.

By the way, I built an M16A1 "Clone" for a Vietnam Vet buddy of mine last year. Getting the triangle handguards on that new upper was a job.

I’m happy to be one of the “gotta have the latest things” kids. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t. It’s all part of the journey.

After 650 rds of wildly inconsistent performance from my Daniel H9 it started keyholing. I don’t know why, I’ve been using the same ammo all the way along, but it started tearing massive holes in the target. When I go back and look at photos of earlier targets I can see where it was doing it then as well, but not to the degree that it on the last target. I called DD and they said they had not heard of this before (even though there are several well known videos demonstrating this exact problem) and that it sounded like a bad barrel and they would likely replace the entire gun. It is also known that there were a bad batch of barrels around the 3000 mark and mine is 2936. So, it is back in the hands of Daniel Defense - I just got word this morning that it is now in their Service Queue. We will see what they come up with. While I was willing to be a beta tester on this gun I did not expect the level of trouble I’ve had with guns like my Archons and VP9s running circles around it, and I am feeling pretty jaded about the gun. Assuming it comes back and is performing properly I will probably move on from it. Maybe this is Karma for getting one of the odd Prodigy’s that runs like a scalded dog!

Can’t beat the odds all the time…

That’s disappointing, though, because I’m keeping my eye in these.
