Is Kimber the go-to for 1911s these days?

Kimber has been really knocking it out of the park recently when it comes to 1911s in both single and double-stack formats.

The 2K11 came out a couple of years ago and is giving Staccato a run for its money, especially in its Pro and Comped variants.

Then came the company's Next Generation of 1911s, which have all the features that modern Colt 45 lovers want, but for a price that doesn't break a potential new buyer out in cold sweats.

Now this week, they debuted the DS 1911 Warrior line with options in 9mm, 10mm, .45ACP, and .38 Super, including a long slide variant, with prices starting at $1,099. (Attractive prices)

i had a Kimber Custom II, and actually liked it..it did give me an issue, i sent it back to the new southern location, and less than 2 weeks, i got it back, running smooth as silk.

but things came up here, and i had to be rid of it..

so, yeah, hell yeah, i'd buy one in 45 ACP of course, as to me, the price is right.

I will admit to some bias with Kimber. When the original Kimber of Oregon was in Clackamas and owned by the Warnes they had a fine high end .22 Rimfire rifle. Unfortunately, certain business practices led to bankruptcy. Along came Edelman and Nationwide Sports who bought the name, parts etc and regrouped as Kimber of America. KoA soured me on Kimber; they put out a lot of garbage like 95 Mauser actions with a Kimber marked barrel and a Choate stock. Kimber marked 10-22 barrels, and the later 82C Rimfires. They made Nationwide sports the sole distributor and things like wanting a simple cap (15.00) had to be ordered thru a Dealer / FFL and carried with it a minimum order fee and a large shipping fee - The 15.00 cap became a 40.00 - 45.00 cap. Then they finally dropped the garbage, bought a company in NY and started the 1911's and the New K22 Kimber Rimfire. The 1911's and the new rimfire were fine firearms although they had a lot of quality issues with the rifles but by that time I had totally soured on Kimber and their ( Thru Edelman) business practices. Kimber 1911's started out a lot of pistol for the money but their 7issues with using some sub-standard MIM and breakages tarnished their name for a while and, I believe, was one of the direct causes if the MIM bias we see today.

Sorry Kimber but to me THIS IS A KIMBER.

I've had more than one Kimber 1911. I have an original Clackamas 1911 45acp and a Rapide in 10mm. Both damn fine tack drivers. I will NOT buy any of their series 80 1911's no matter how nice or inexpensive.
So if that new double stack above is series 70 I'm all in.
 
Since Kimber moved to their newest location, they certainly seems to have got out in front of their QC issues and their latest double-stack 1911s and 2011s are very good. I assume they are still building their legacy guns in the new plant. I can’t speak to those guns, but Kimber really seems to be making waves. I own a couple of 2K11s and I’m smitten with them.

Yeah, their past quality issues put me off on Kimber. I hope they have that worked out

yeah, i need to know that as well too...my Custom II was an 80 series,

Heck yeah,

I own a few Kimbers and I HIGHLY recommend them. People cry about mim parts and other stuff but I never had any issues with em well except most don't like gold dot's LOL. I think it's only the ole school 1911's though without feed ramps I hear the 2011's feed speer's great.. Sadly living in commiefornmia I don't have access to any decent new kimbers only the old stock. Sigh so sad... Mom did just have her 80th though so.. maybe I'll be able to get the $$$$ out of here soon.

You mean the past whiners and trolls? LOL.. I have 3 older 1911 Kimber's 1 full size two shorties and have had 0 issues with any of them minus the feed issues with certain JHP ammunition which is consistent with most 1911's without feed ramps . If they are good enough for Marine SOCOM they are good enough for me.

I have one Kimber a KDS9C I bought on clearance at my local Scheel's.

Never had much luck with them.

I really like my 4 Wilson Combat and two Dan Wesson guns. My Dan Wesson Guardian in 9mm is my favorite one to shoot, unfortunately it's my wife's favorite as well
 
I've never been a Kimber fan. Over rated and over priced in my opinion. :rolleyes:
Although Kimber fan boys seem to be as fanatical as Glockophiles. ;)
I do find it interesting that one of the calibers this new gun is offered in is 38 Super. I am quite fond of this old cartridge an AFAIK this is the only 38 Super DS anybody makes. So I will give 'em credit for that.
