Is Kimber the go-to for 1911s these days?

IMO, and IMO only, I think more people have an issue with Sig as a company over how they responded to the P320 fiasco than they have with Sig firearms (except maybe the P320). I’ve read many, many folks say they continue to carry and use various Sig models outside of the P320.

I’ve posted many other places my perspective of the Sig response and it’s what led me to dispose of all Sig product and boycott them going forward, but that’s just me.

And before I’m accused of never owning an Sig, it’s been a P229, a P239, 2 X P320 Compact, 1 X P320 Carry, and 4 X P365 in various configurations. Never had a problem with any of them and thousands of rounds downrange between them. All now gone (traded for other manufacturer’s product). I merely choose to vote my position on Sig as a company with my wallet.

Springfield Armory over Kimber every day of the week for me. Having owned/extensively shot both. Part of that are the features offered. Kimbers in my experience were reliable and accurate, but I don't like the muzzle heavy feel of a cone barrel on their shorter models. Now the shortest 1911 I own is a Commander. The shorty Officer's Model Springer was reliable for me, but the girl I was dating at the time had function problems that disappeared when a full size Government model was carried again. Then I realized it was not any easier to carry a short barrel, as it is the butt that is hard to hide. A Concealed Carry Officers model, short grip and Commander length is what Springfield needs to crank out. True Commander with a bushing, not a coned barrel. I would buy a couple today.

Not a Kimber fan. I got soured on them several yers ago. I bought a new Kimber Solo when they first came out. At the time THE most expensive pistol I’d ever bought. Loved the way it felt in hand, loved how easy it was to CC and loved how accurate it was. Unfortunately, despite two trips back to the mothership (who assured me all was well) and $500 worth of every single kind of defensive ammo I could find (as well as a few flavors of 9 mm ball) the POS never made it throughTWO magazines without at least one FTF or FTE.. Finally gave up, swapped it on a much less expensive SIG 938, which has ran Perfect from then until now with 2 k rounds through it, (including almost a 1000 rounds of my reloads) without ONE FTF/FTE. I’ve heard good things about their new 1911’s, but they’ve got all the money from me they are likely to see.

I've had a couple of Kimbers and they were ok guns but nothing to write home about. Then I bought a Kimber Raptor and from the very first shots it shot about 2ft low and 2 ft left. No matter how I gripped the pistol it continued shooting this way. I had a couple of other firearms instructors shoot it with the same results. No problem, that's what customer service is for, right? Called up Kimber and the lady I talked to on the phone was the worst customer service person in the world. She kept getting snippy with me and finally said it's probably not the gun , it's just you. OK, ma'am, don't worry, I'll never buy another Kimber thanks to her. That was years ago.
Recently one of my firearm instructor co-workers brought out his Kimber 2311, after shooting it, I really want to give them another chance but my feelings about how I was treated before just won't let me.

As far as customer service goes here is a great example. I bought a Ruger Redhawk at a pawn shop years ago. It was good but had a lot of scratches and wear but it shot good so I didn't care. I bought it to bum around in the woods anyway. After having it for awhile I noticed it was shaving lead so figured it needed some parts replaced to get it back in time. Called Ruger and explained the situation and letting them know I was not the original owner, they sent me a RMA number and I sent it off with a note explaining the whole thing and to go through it and let me know what it would cost for the repairs. About 10 days later, it was returned to me. I opened the box and had to go check the serial number I wrote down because I thought they sent me a new pistol. Nope, refinished the entire gun, replace a few worn parts, and the bill said no charge. That's customer service.

SA needs to develop and offer a Commander, aluminum-framed, SS blackened slide with Novak night sights, beavertail grip, Commander hammer, ambi-safety, extended slide release, vented trigger, and a ramped barrel in .45 acp, .38 Super & 9mm.

was going to ask if the "girl you were dating" was on the trophy board posted a while back, but decided that would be in bad taste. LOL

I kinda like my Kimbers-all of them-
