Is the 1911 Dangerous to Carry?

OMG a 1911 in a Serpa? Blasphemy

Not my actual holster; just a random pic for the meme. My holster is leather, exactly as God intended when he told John Moses Browning to make the 1911...

Been carrying them my entire life. I have never seen a discharge yet. Sig mine dumb asp proof.

Ive seen them thrown from tracks, branches pulling them out of holsters. Yet never a discharge.

I have only ever carried with a chest or shoulder rig.

Someone might think its not what you carry, but how.
Never saw a 3-year-old carrying a 1911 I didn't like, just be safe.

About the "retention factor":

Well, IMO that might be interpreted in a different way: The malefactor had the time to reach and grab the gun because the good person didn't have the time lower the safety and shoot. Or even forgot to lower the safety himself, due to the stress.

That's why my weapons don't have safeties.
Sorry, no personal offense meant, but that's just absurd. When the pistol is up and pointed down-range, the safety is thumbed off- as natural as breathing with a 1911 or BHP... that's why we practice until we know our weapon...

I always carry condition 1 but will become more diligent with my thumb on the hammer for re holsters. This does seem to be a lingering thought process from decades ago. I have 3 friends I shoot with that are now recent 1911 owners and have incorporated swiping the safety down and leaving the thumb. All feel very comfortable and 1 has incorporated his for hom

Im a new shooter so...but, I carry my 1911 in a Falco holster with full trigger gaurd, C&L with thumb break leather blocking the hammer. There's essentially 4 safety's. the gun safety, grip safety, trigger gaurd safety, and leathere strap safety. Is there a set up that offers more safety than that? If so, please tell me. Yet with all that I can still draw from umder my shirt and put a round center mass in abt 2 sec. consistently. BTW, I've found that using a gun belt under my shirt is way more comfortable and functional than using my pants belt.
