Is the 1911 the "Stick Shift" of EDC?

Well the Colonel said:

I humbly agree with what you've said. I do not carry a 1911 for a very specific reason. While I truly like the 1911 I have difficulty shooting it. I lost my right trigger finger while in service. I now use my middle finger for trigger work. Because of hand position I occasionally fail to operate the grip safety correctly. I'm not willing to risk my life on it. The weapon is fine, my hand position not so much. Thanks for what you do Sir.

All valid points made regarding the differences between the 1911 and striker fired pistols, but the author hasn’t actually made a case for why the 1911 is a comparable or superior EDC, like a firearms apologetics paper. The 1911 is low capacity, heavy, more difficult to conceal, and less accurate than a 9mm, generally speaking. I fall somewhere in the middle with my Prodigy (a later and greatly improved production run), Staccato, or KDS9C. The feel and grip angle of a 1911, with higher capacity, improved accuracy (particularly at range) and simpler operation.

Hell yes! And going back through cars I’ve bought over my lifetime, I’d have selected a manual in most of them given the option at the time I bought them. My (now moved on) 2014 Nissan 370Z was the last manual transmission I’ve owned.

I do have a SA Emissary, a SA TRP in Coyote Brown, and an EB Kobra Carry in stainless…all .45 and all 4.25. I do occasionally carry the TRP. Emissary is too heavy and EB is a 25th Anniversary Edition that I didn’t acquire to carry.

Far as I’m concerned, true car aficionados will have driven a stick sometime in their lifetimes and true handgun aficionados will have at least run a few magazines through a 1911. There is so much more to driving than getting from point A to point B and so much more to shooting than EDC.

Sorry to hear about your finger "Doc". I am assuming you were a "Field Corpsman", so thanks for the lives you saved. I know "Your Marines" thank you too!

In this digital plastic firearms world I like the old school iron site and iron gun with the simple trigger. It’s like ordering a pizza for delivery on the phone talking to another human instead of fighting the online ordering system. It’s the KISS method, it never fails.

While I don’t have all the .45’s that you have I do still have a 2005 350Z that is all Nismo’d out. She can spin those 275 Michelins all day long 😃

I have a couple of 1911s. One of which is loaded and among my hidden house guns. But I don't EDC them. I sure miss my old 03 Ram 3500. That was my last vehicle with a manual transmission. Some times I will be driving my current truck and reach for a gear shift that is not there. The same for a clutch pedal that is not there.
