It's that time of year again. Don't blow your fingers off, kiddies...

In my patrol days, almost every year we were called to help FD look for blown off fingers. M80's and cherry bombs usually didn't leave much but on rare occasion somebody would find something to put in the cooler. Some folks just lose their minds when they get hands on fireworks.
I'm with you. Unless it has a 5 foot fuse, I don't want anything to do with an M80. And the people that hold them in their hands while lighting them just boggle the mind. If you're gonna do it, at least put the damn thing on the ground first and then light it.

Where I worked at, the south end would be filled with lead at midnight. “We don’t need any stinking fireworks”. Time to find an underpass or underground parking!

Every year. Seemingly intelligent people do stupid stuff. As a safety and fire protection engineer I made a darn good living cause people are fundamentally stupid😏
Stupid person 🙋‍♂️

Luckily never had an issue save a hole burnt in shorts a little too close to my junk when a bottle rocket didn’t rocket (firing from front of bicycle poorly thought out).

Tell my kid, learn from my dumb ass! 😂

Like here is a PSA, if 700lbs of machine part is falling, just let it fall or you may end up with a McNugget

Ok, not to be cruel or such, but there has to be a good flippin the bird to someone story you have 🧐🤔😉

Back in the 70's my father used to mix his own flash powder....powder used in old camera flash-pans in the 1800's (ingredients commonly for sale at any hardware store at the time). Fill up a 35mm film canister, tape the lid, add a fuse. Woof, that was fun. Would send a 55gal drum 20' in the air (empty drum). Those were the days. I vividly remember him having 1/2-dozen glass Skippy jars full of this concoction on a shelf in his workshop, waiting to be loaded into smaller film canisters or M80 tubes....the things we did....

My uncle once held one of those small Chinese firecrackers at the tips of his thumbnail and forefinger nail and it went off with a bang. I was impressed, so many years later, I tried the same thing. Only hurt for the rest of that night. :(
My cousin's husband lost an eye when someone threw up a cherry bomb. :(
My youngest son spent 20 years in the Army in EOD. He likes blowing things up. He also has had to disarm some as well. Currently working for an independent contractor showing others how to blow things up. He demolishes at least two junkyard vehicles/week. Thankfully he has never been hurt by them. (Knocking on wood) He has had other mishaps though. A shy lieutenant reluctant to jump out of a plane, had to be pushed, knocking my son against the doorway and when he landed awkwardly, sprained his ankle. He had to report to a C.O. about the incident and he had a black eye, but he told everyone it was just some new camo for his face.:LOL:

My moms two brothers were LEO. Retired each after 30 yrs. One was a state trooper and one was local.

Growing up in late 70’s/80’s they would “confiscate” the illegal fireworks and such from folks.
Take them to our rental beach house, call the local beach PD and FD and then put on a big fireworks display for the beach folk.

Not a fireworks display. Disposing of contraband over water.😉

Do like a good friend of mine did one day at a diner. He pretended to have his finger stuck in his nose. The waitress freaked out and started to call 911.
