Jam/FTF Question

I’m gonna say this is ammo related, but these kind of jams are not uncommon with PDPs. There are numerous threads on the Walther forum about using aftermarket guide rods and lighter (15lb) recoil springs. The OEM guide rod is plastic and sprung with an 18lb recoil spring. I run a tungsten guide rod and 15 on spring from ZRTS in my comped PDP. Did this happen with the SK as well? My new VP9F jammed multiple times when I first took it out and I was running 124gt Blazer Brass, which I typically do not run because I have found it to be inconsistent in quality - despite what the cognoscenti may say. I am not the only person who feels this way. Anyway, I swapped to 124 gr NATO in the VP9F and it ran as expected. I would get hold is some NATO and see if the same thing happens in the PDP.

And of course the other option could be limp wristing. Just sayin’.
The problem didn’t happen with the VP9SK, and as for limp wristing, well…I doubt it but hey, there may have been a moment…who knows 😉? So do you think that I need to switch up rods and springs? I think I will run the rest of it through the VP9s and stick to American Eagle after that. I suppose I should spread my wings and get into some other forums. The thing is though…I trust you guys. 🙂

I’m sure you’ll figure it out.

That’s what makes this forum so good. A lot of expertise on a lot of platforms and a decidedly low percentage of fanboys who will insist any malfunction is self induced, as opposed to being the gun (looking at you HKPro). Like I said, run some different ammo through the PDP. You have the 5in h, correct? Try and eliminate ammo before you go down the recoil rod rabbit hole. If you can find NATO, try and run a couple of boxes through your PDP. I’m actually picking up a case this weekend, I shoot it almost exclusively. Federal 124 is pretty solid, as is 124 Speer Lawman.

FWIW, I thought I was limp wristing my VP9F because they took away the finger grooves and I couldn’t get the grip I’m used to. I’m not too proud to not consider it.

Just me personally, that plastic rod would have to go. Not that I think that had anything to do with it. I also don't think it was limp wristing. My money is on the ammo. And I say that as a guy who uses that ammo a lot and never had any issues with it. Even Federal can let a dud slip through. Yeah, Hans is right, it isn't top quality as far as the plating and ( as with ANY ammo) repeatedly racking it and unloading it could cause bullet set back, maybe more easily since the crimp is subpar or whatever, but the fact is I go through stupid amounts of ammo and I'm not looking for top quality in blaster ammo. As long as it works and hits in the same place my HST does I'm happy.

Looks like either the bullet was sticking out too far or the follower in the mag hung up a bit. i've had followers hang up in the front and the cartridge would jump up over the mag lip and catch on the top chamber. from that pic if it didn't get pushed in from impact it is a lot shorter than the other. i'd say ammo problem if it has not ever happened before. it may never do it again.

Mine is the 4in compact. I'm just going to carry on as per normal. A lot of what you guys are saying makes sense, and the thing with the crimp does too. I'll run my Federal through it. Last thing I need is a new rabbit hole, if you get my meaning... ;)
Don't let these cretins scare you off the Blazer if you can get good deals on it. Remember, we are men. Our tendency is to overthink every stupid detail of whatever hobby we have and constantly have a reason to upgrade, change or buy something else.

I have been a musician all my life. You think it's bad with guns, try guitars and tube amps.

“Remember we are men.” 🤣
I’ve been using a lot (~2k rounds) of BB in 3 different guns lately without any issues. I’ll still buy/use it. I haven’t had any failures (yet).

Lol! I'm not worried about running it. My hunch is that it was a dud in the box..short, not in tolerance, which seems to me the consensus here. Now that this has happened to me, it may not ever happen again but now I know how to clear it and probably what caused it. I appreciate all the feedback here because I learn from it 😊

I have 4 9mm handguns in regular rotation. The vast majority of my 9mm ammo is either Blazer Brass or Sellior and Bellot. I don't keep exact records on how much I go through, but 1000 rounds a month might be an average. Some months it's a lot more than that.

I run Blazer Brass 124gr
Prob close to 10k+ rounds now

Every manufacturing will have some slight issues. Every brand. Not an ammo brand on the planet that doesnt

Nothing inherently wrong with Blazer, I’ve shot a bunch because it was cheap. My only point was that it is NOT crimped. Normally not a problem (unless you’re shoring a Bond Bullpup, in which case you’ll see a kinetic bullet puller work😏

I also run Blazer, and I’ve run a lot of it…and I’ll continue to run it.

It’s decent blaster ammo; that being said, it can have some specific issues you MIGHT not see in other brands.

I do know my Baer will spit chunks of Blazer jacket/plating out the muzzle; discovered this doing close range work; there was a small “pattern” of fragments in the target paper.

I've heard a lot of limp wristing stuff over the years and have tried on several firearms to make one jam from it. even to the point where the gun got close to coming out of my hand. never could make one jam from it.
My sister could make my5in Prodigy jam instantly even though three others were firing it at the same session successfully. My sister is a cowboy action shooter and I think she just couldn't find the right grip on the Prodigy.

I wish I had a gun for every guitar, pickup, amp, effects pedal, etc that I've bought. Oh, what a minute, I think I got that round the wrong way. :p:oops:
