Jay Leno just made a statement "there is no middle class anymore"

Phaser

Master Class
What rock has this washed-up so-called entertainer been over the last decade. And its people like him that have more money than sense to make these kinds of comments. He doesn't give one sh*t about the middle-class citizens.
This slack jawed jerk is a disgrace. How in the hell the network signed him to replace Johnny Carson no one will ever know.

Sorry. I have no resentment for Jay Leno.

Maybe you don't have smog checks where you live. Maybe you don't have a late 60s muscle car...

If you do have a 60s or 70s muscle car, google "Leno's Law" if you want to be at least a little appreciative.

There's no room under the hood of my big-block pony car for any stupid air pump.

I've had all kinds of muscle cars...let's start with a Pro Street 55 Chevy, a Pro Street 69 Camaro, a 67 Chevelle Super Sport, a 70 Plymouth RR to name a few. Leno did nothing for me or my fellow hot-rodders.
He ended up being an overpaid has been that had enough money to buy his collection and to beat all thinks he is the begin all and end all advisor to everything with wheels on it.

Nor do I harbor any ill will to Jay Leno. He has done a marvelous job fighting with Sacramento regarding the smog regulations for anyone who has a classic car or older hot rod etc.

As for how he replaced Carson, he was funny as Carson in his own way.

It sucks that I don't have money like Jay, but not one reason for me to dislike him. I'm sorry that you dislike the man so much, I can only wish you a better day tomorrow.

So you HAD them and don't have them anymore ?

I'm sorry you ended up feeling that way...sounds like it hurt.

Setting aside like/dislike for Jay Leno and simply focussing on his statement, I have to say I agree. I've been watching the middle class, or at least what was considered to be middle class in the late 60s into the early 70s, slowly disappear for a couple of decades now.

Having given it a lot of thought over the years, I think the demise of the middle class began when the moms started joining the workplace. I'm not saying moms entering the workforce is the cause, just a point in time where I can identify a notable change.

By the way, outside of good ol' Carson, Leno is the only night time show I liked. Fallon and ESPECIALLY Kimmel are friggin idiots!

In the United States, the middle class is commonly defined by the Pew Research Center formula as households earning two-thirds to double the national median household income.

National Household Income Tiers (2026 Estimates)

Based on current U.S. Census Bureau and economic tracker breakdowns, annual household income ranges divide into the following brackets:
  • Poverty Line / Below Poverty: Under $32,000
    Lower Class: $32,000 – $55,000
    Lower-Middle Class: $55,000 – $84,000
    True Middle Class: $84,000 – $125,000
    Upper-Middle Class: $125,000 – $167,000
    Upper Class: $167,000 and above
(Note: Broad national standards like Pew’s overall baseline span roughly $55,820 to $167,460 for a base household, though exact figures shift depending on family size and local cost of living.)

Do you see any published figures for number of households that are "True Middle Class" as compared to the others?

That's correct...had them. This over a span of 30-some-odd years. Drove them, enjoyed them, wrenched on them and then made the decision to move on and let someone else get the enjoyment that I had. Truth of the matter, when you really stop and think about it all we are in life are caretakers to things such as automobiles, guns, valuable coins...etc.
Is there one or two of those listed I regret parting with...you bet.

It's exactly this. And for several reasons.

It's not just that they are n teh workforce, althought it's a huge factor.

But because they are in the workforce, they are not in the homes. And becuase they aren't in the homes, kids aren't being raised by thier parents. Its gotten worse each generation. Meaning the schools and media are raising our kids.
Schools are controlled by school boards and teachers unions, which are all left leaning. They are influencing children from the earliest of ages all through their formative years. Then you add in everything in tv from the 80s on making it all about every kid HAS to go to college. In college, that's where the brainwashing really ramps up. And in this current day and age, parents aren't parents AT ALL. At best, they're friends who don's discipline thier kids and really raise them with morals and values. At worst, they're essentially absent becuase they and the children are so busy with their own lives that they never spend time together. So the only real influences in their lives are the Leftist schools.

Then you add in the economic impact of having the women in the workforce. All of the sudden there was extra money in homes. Businesses were quick to realize that, and consumerism took over. Our economy adjusted to two income homes vs. one. It's basic economics.

All of this just lead to the slow elimination of the true middle class.

Then you have the Dems going further and further left. Meanwhile, people who were blue collar and voted Dems becuase they thought they cared about them continue to vote that way, and the younger generates vote Left becuase that's how they have been indoctrination, and the Dems go further and further left, creating more laws that have eroded the middle class.

All of the while church has completely gone away, leading to even more moral decay.

And ALL of this is all right out of the Communist playbook. They are taking over by generation by eliminating the family structure, taking over the schools, taking away God, etc...

It's literally everything that Communist beleive.

I don't worry trouble myself with things like how big/how small the middle class is. I'm not envious of others wealth and the hard-hearted SOB that I am not overly concerned with the plight of the poor. (we have the richest poor people in the world) I just keep my head down and trudging on, and work at staying content with were I ended up. It could have been a damn sight worse and when I think on what really matters, I'm in pretty good shape.
