July 5th, 1937, SPAM introduced

I cannot count the number of days Dad, Don, and I ate lunch or dinner off the back of the truck tailgate during hunting with a loaf of bread, a tin of spam and squirt jar of mustard. It was one food all the podunk gas station party store had, and we did not want to leave the woods. Great memories and a steak at home never gave as great a meal...

My FIL was probably one of those GI's sending hate mail to Hormel. The last few months of the war SPAM about the only meat that he ate. He was in the 90 Division of the 3rd Army and at that point in the war he rarely spent two nights in a row in the same place. Needless to say SPAM was never on the menu at his house.

I was doing some work on Guam and was told they had a special flavored Spam, only available there. Never could figure out what it was. Had a huge display of the stuff. Still like to fry up some with eggs!
Was it this? I was stationed on Guam during the early 90s while in the Marine Corps, and loved it!

Could have been…does it state a particular flavor? I would go there to do background investigations. Wife lounged around the Hilton pool while I fought off the wild dogs. But Tumon Bay was great! Visited the “world’s largest”K-mart. Wonder if it is still there? Semper Fi…
