Just Diagnosed With Diabetes

1st
So although I’m doing lots of research on what I’m up against going forward and looking for help let me start by saying for many people they don’t like sharing their medical experiences so I understand if some don’t want to share.

2nd
Following recent blood work I’ve been diagnosed as Pre-Diabetic however according to the numbers I’m within 0.1 of going past the “Pre” threshold.

3rd
In NO WAY am I looking for personal medical information.
What I am interested in knowing is what are you using for……
Continuous Glucose Monitoring “CGM’s”
That being said I want to mention I’m big on the Apple IOS platform, watch and iPhone so if anyone has experience using CGM’s compatible with that platform would be helpful.

Based on my current diagnosis my doctor said that most likely I can control my Diabetes with a good diet however I was upfront with my doctor that living full time in an RV and with plans to travel extensively over the next few years there are times that (unfortunately) I don’t eat well. As well as not “at times” not being close to medical help if required.

Thank you in advance to everyone who can share your experiences with CGM’s

My wife was diagnosed rhe same 2 years ago. So far, eating better, and testing blood 2 times a day have kept her at same level. She uses disposable Lancettes and a meter. After a bit you get to where you can see what effects your level more than other things. So you can avoid thrm.

Good luck.

I've been diabetic since the mid 90s. Being pre-diabetic is like being pre-pregnant. Cut out the carbs and sugars and by all means get yourself a continuous blood-sugar monitor. It's the only way to go! I use a Libre 3. I use the reader that they provide. You can also get an app on your phone that works as well. However, you have to choose to use one or the other. There are several others on the market. Also consider seeing an endocrinologist who can help you manage your blood sugar. Diabetes is nothing to fool with. Take care and don't hesitate to reach out for moral support.

I've been on insulin for 51 years as a type 1 diabetic. Not the same affliction, I admit, but similar. The best thing you can do while not maintaining a good diet is exercise, and exactly what Recusant said about carbs. Exercise daily will allow for significant straying on the diet front.

I have avoided CGMs however. Being a solid conspiracy theorist, I don't want my blood sugars out on the internet where insurance companies can find them and base coverage decisions on those results.

Earned my type 2 last October after being in pre zone for about 5 years. Even then I was/am on low side with A1C at 6.7. Currently taking metformin and Munjaro and after 6 months A1C is 5.6

I don’t use a CGM I just poke the finger somewhat regularly: morning/mid aft/evening. My highest readings are in the morning which after a little bit of google doctoring isn’t uncommon since body is waking up.

Along with diet, exercise both aerobic and resistance training is good

Good you’re getting infront of it early. I was foolish and didn’t realize that it can lead to life threatening complications if left unchecked.

Nothing I say should be considered medical advice 😂. Just putting that disclaimer in there. Just sharing me story

Didn’t think about the insurance industry being a problem because I’m strictly on Medicare.

Thanks for the input.

I have been a diabetic for 20 years as far as I know. I would bet for many years before that because I remember being thirsty all of the time but didn't know being diabetic caused that symptom.

I was on metformin for many years but two years ago asked my doctor to take me off the metformin and put me on insulin. I was tired of taking the horse pills.

I don't use a CGM. I just stick my finger to see how I am doing. I use sweet potatoes in place of regular potatoes when I want mashed potatoes or even a baked potato . Carbs are your worst enemy. Even eating sugar free candy is carbs and carbs turn to sugar.

Good luck with your battle.

Not a fan of sweet potatoes however I can do without potatoes anyway and I love vegetables. I have a lot to learn.

Horse pills for sure!

My dad, who lived with us because of his health, used the Libre cgm. It was a tremendous help. A lot of insurance won’t cover them unless you’re on daily insulin.
That’s what I’m seeing with every CGM I’m looking at, basically they want you very sick before giving you extra help instead of giving you help so maybe you can keep yourself from getting very sick.

Cut out the carbs and sugars

That's the part that pisses me off . I already have been very low carb , and no sugar for 10 plus years .

( I am just under " Pre " , and really don't want to go to the harassment and discrimination of a Label . )

Ironically, the Internest jumping on the cliché of " Eat Veggies, Eat Veggies " , has been causing my carb intake to Increase !

I have an upcoming appointment with my Tripple Threat ( Chiropractor/ Osteopathic/ Naturapath) to drill deep into the biochemistry more than the 3 or 4 minutes available with mainstream MD s .

Lots of veggies have lots of carbs....

Freestyle libre, you can use with your iphone and you don’t have to get the starter kit. From the app in the phone you can activate the sensors.

Next best advice I can give you is look up and order
Freestyle libre 1/2/3 sensor covers they help protect your sensors saving you money from a knocked off sensor.

Don’t know if you drink regular sodas or juices if you do just stopping that will drastically change your a1c. Only thing I am addicted to are zero sodas, even though the Dr tells me to drink more water. The Zero carb water packets make not being able to drink sugary juices better.

Yeah , that's my conundrum , that l need to dig into .

What Specifically is the mainstream cliché motivation on veggie obsession ? What nutrients? Particular types of fiber ?

Or just double dumbed down admonition to Not eat sweet or greasy junk ?
Fox News had an article about a Vanity Fair column in which VF posited that eating protein is a sign of MAGA and toxic masculinity. All bad of course.
