What was once just a Turkish import from Century Arms has grown into such a popular brand of pistol that it has moved its operation to the US. The company is now manufacturing Canik pistols in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Canik is now made in the USA by Americans, for Americans. And despite releasing its first US-made heater, the company did NOT jack up the price. At an MSRP of $649.99, it’s comparable to other large recognizable firearms brands.

I was looking at the FN Reflex XL and this Canik. Read some concerns with the FN regarding too light trigger pull (on this forum and others) with the enclosed SAO. Read and watched good to great reviews on the Canik......and since I gave up on Walther entering the narrow (sub?) compact market, thought this Canik with its great trigger would be the closest I can get.

Grip is nice and aggressive, but not too. Iron sights are really good - but with my old astigmatized eyes, I went with the Holosun 507K. Ergonomics/feel in my medium sized hands is excellent. Trigger is very good (dry fired only at this point).

Cleaned, lubed, and ready for sight adjustment and inaugural rounds.

Interestingly, I've had a Sig P365 AXG Legion for a year and a half that I should like more than I actually do. Weight and grip are great. Points a little naturally high for me and I don't shoot it as well as I think I should past 7 yards. (I shoot my P365XLs a lot better.)

Will be interesting to compare the Canik with the Sig AXG. Can't wait to get them out to the range together.

Side note: My LGS ordered it for me yesterday a little after noon, and he had in for me in his shop in 24hrs. Excellent.

Rented one at the range. Ok. Not bad, nothing special, just ok. I owned a Rival S previously…
I can say this, Caniks are, out of the box, have some of the absolute best striker fired triggers there are.
Flat, textured safety.. very, very nice. Clean break, good take up, good reset.

Otherwise… Feel in hand, recoil impulse, track ability/shootablity, just wasn’t special.
Let me rephrase… it did nothing for me that my Shield Plus comp or my M&P 2.0 Comp Carry didn’t do…

But damn… I do like their out of the box trigger :)

Yes, the trigger was the major appeal for me....and I think it has some other good features as well.

Very nice, good luck with it.

The only reason that I do not own a gun from a Turkish manufacturer is political. I do not feel Turkey is a great friend to the USA.
agree 100%, though this is made in the USA, so it's like any other product now. Americans support China with billions of dollars in goods everyday, so the Turk govt thing falls to me like China now. I dont like either.
In regards to the pistol itself, I had several friends buy the original ones when they first came to the USA from Turkey.
Those pistols were horrible. 2 of them failed to feed so much and one one gun literally came apart in the trigger mechanism. not my guns thankfully, but their guns. I refused to buy them based on shooting those pieces of junk with my friends.

Caniks have come a LONG way from the early TP9 variants. I also bought a few of them when they first hit the US shores and they were decent, cheap and pretty reliable. I also remember quite a few people having issues with them due to spotty manufacturing, but I never had any issues with mine. Over the last 10 years, Caniks have become one of the best striker fired handguns you can buy on the market today with some of the best triggers you can get.
I count Caniks as some of the best guns in my safe and I would not hesitate to rely on one if we ever get to the inevitable SHTF days.
