McDonalds has lawsuit move forward on McRib

Imagine my disappointment the Glock packing Chicken hasn’t shown up on this Halloween thread.

Hi,

People are McStupid. Now McDonald's has to pay for it, again. Weren't they sued a number of years ago when someone spilled their coffee on their lap and found out it was hot? I never for a minute thought there was rib meat in that sandwich. Sheesh.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
As much as I hate defending lawsuits/lower than whale poo lawyers/and the blood sucking public, that woman got 3rd degree burns! Ya get 3rd degree burns for setting your dumb a** on fire not for spilling a cup of coffee.

Agree with the temperature, not the other. Cars had/have cupholders, or if they didn't you could very easily purchase one in several models/styles. My parents did this with their cars, as my Dad had to have a cupholder for his Coca Cola bottles. She was a passenger in her grandson's car, a Ford Probe, which didn't have cupholders. She put it between her legs to put in cream and sugar. Putting a collapsible styrofoam/cardboard cup with no lid between the legs. What could go wrong? Even if the coffee wasn't as hot as it was, she would have still gotten burns. Not as severe, but burns nonetheless.

The jury found that the warning was not large enough or sufficient to inform customers of the serious burn risks associated with the hot coffee. Yes, she was a 79 year old Grandmother, and her grandson didn't have the consideration to put a cupholder in his car for her. I'm sorry, but commonsense dictates that if you stick something hot between your legs with no lid on it, you run the risk of getting burned. Common. Sense. The cups had warnings on them. She did a "risk assessment" and determined that the "risk" was acceptable in the name of convenience and time saving. She accepted the risk, and reaped the consequences. And put the blame of her lack of basic intelligence on a corporation and got paid very handsomely for it. Of course, she was only asking for $20,000 and McDonalds decided to take it to court and lost. That is on them, and they deserve the judgement. But this doesn't excuse her culpability in this.

This is the reason for warning labels on electrical appliances warning against using in/around water. This is the reason for instructions on milk cartons on how to open them. This is the reason for the warning labels on lawnmowers to not stick your hands/feet under them while running. People like this are the reason for all the warning labels, or as I like to call them "Darwin labels", on every single product, industrial machinery, basically everything in our lives. We should just let natural selection run its course.

That incident occurred in Albuquerque NM, common sense is not prevalent in that town.

the REAL reason9s for any warning label(s), is/are...............the lawyers

them SOB's encourage people to sue.......so that they can then take at least a third of the settlement, to then buy MORE commercial time to advise people ..............to sue.

and of course to buy..that brand new yacht, a beach house on the French Riviera, a Roll-Royce, (or Bentley), and a winter home in Beverly Hills......

There was more to that lawsuit than people remember.79-year-old Stella Liebeck suffered severe third-degree burns over 6% of her body (including her inner thighs, groin, and buttocks) after spilling a cup of McDonald's drive-thru coffee in February 1992

McDonald's policy required them to serve their coffee at 190°, that's damn near boiling.
They had 700 plus prior incidents were a customer got burned. They knew there was a problem and it didn't do anything to change it

The victim originally asked McDonald's to just cover her medical bills and lost wages which were like $30,000. They offered her 800 bucks.

The jury said that McDonald's was 80% responsible and awarded her $160,000 plus 2.7 million in punitive damages. They were basically trying to teach McDonald's a lesson

There was a "Sandy's" drive in about a half a mile from the High School I was attending and it was a gold mine. There was another in large CIty about 15 miles away. It was your standard burgers, Hot Dogs, Fish sandwiches, Fries, you know the type. Place was mobbed on weekends and we used to sneak over their at lunchtime. Suddenly it and the other Sandy's was closed down. It came out later the meat was obtained from the Dog Pound (Cat's too) for a kick back in cash to the City Manager. Big deal of course, but I don't recall anyone going to trial over it. I recall after I ate there I had this urge to chase cars.
