Mexican Navy attacks NYC...

I am not ready to condemn the crew.
Everything I am reading about it says the ship lost engine power and steerage and the current carried it into the bridge. Apparently the tugboat didn't have enough power to stop it. The ship called for help from more tugs but it was too late. Maybe they needed more tugs from the outset. I don't know if there was a harbor pilot aboard.

I am reminded of the cargo ship that hit the Skyway bridge in Tampa in 1980 that killed 35 people when a section collapsed. The ship was blown off course by a gale in bad visibility and heavy current. We moved to that area in 1980 and it was a major event in everyone's mind. They put in huge barriers to prevent a reoccurrence when they rebuilt the bridge.

More recently a container ship hit and knocked down a bridge in Baltimore killing 6 construction workers, and again a loss of power and steerage was blamed.

It can take a mile to stop one of those big ships when you have power. Without power, you are at the mercy of wind, tides, and current.
From what I’ve seen and heard the captain did call an emergency when the ship lost power and there was a Tug close by but couldn’t get into position quick enough, Tug boats are built for power not speed.
I also heard the NTSB was still waiting for permission from Mexico to board the ship to investigate what happened and nobody has said ANYTHING about a NYC Harbor Master being on board.

There are only two possibilities
1the captain was partying to much and so was his 2nd in command
They don’t have Rum rations. They have…

Does this mean we'll be invading Mexico?
We don't even have to do that! Revoke the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, reclaim all of the formerly Mexican lands that were captured by General Winfield Scott, build the border straight West from Veracruz and call it the Winfield Scott Welcome Zone. We would have all of the seashore in the Gulf of America, The Gulf of California, the West coast of Baja for land development and raise the standard of living for many, formerly Mexican citizens! 💯

Dang! That’s rather drastic. I just want to know if they have Taco Bell’s in Mexico😁
