The news said the cadets were strapped to the masts & rigging, and dies/injured when all that broke off on impact.

They said the ship had lost power but was moving fast in reverse going up-stream, so go figure how all that happened.

The cadest were just like that when it hit the bridge, and the ones killed or injured went down when the masts broke off.
