Mossberg 500

Bassbob

Emissary
Great shotguns. Love the platform. Easy to work on and mod. Reliable and well built.

Whoever designed it so you have to remove the magazine tube to access the spring and follower and then decided to use thread locker so it’s really difficult to get it off, there’s a special place reserved in hell for you.

This started out as a 500 and Cobray supplied the 10" barrel. I've posted this before but folks aways enjoy seeing it.

I mean, you’re not wrong.

But they are my favorite pumps…I’ve got 4.
I just got another one yesterday. This one is a 5 rd. 18” 500, drilled and tapped. My plan was to swap receivers with my 21” 7 rd. 500A which is not drilled and tapped. Of course that was before I thought it out fully.

I’m not afraid to strip one down fully. I’ve done it before. But I’m not sure it’s worth the trouble of taking the tubes off. It would be nice to reinstall them sans Loc-tite so I could access the springs at will without having to take the entire shotgun apart though.

When my kids were young and starting out pheasant and rabbit hunting I bought them a Mossberg 500 combo to use because of the safety position on the tang. Easier for a beginner to engage/disengage than my Remington 870.
I have used the Mossberg off and on for years, it's a great gun I've never fell in love with it I always find myself choosing the 870 now over the 500. The 500 hasn't left the safe in years.
