My light can't handle the kick

what's up Springfield family so IEDC a XDM Elite 10 mil 4.5 and I run a holosun PID Plus light on it problem is no matter what I seem to do it always goes flying off. I torqued it down and even put loctite on it this last time and it's still flew off other problem is my only two holsters are light bearing holsters who will not work without my light any ideas on what I can do? just starting to get irritating thank you in advance semper fi

The light is the retention point in the holsters. Without the light to grab hold of, your gun will flop around. You need a non light bearing holster or get a different light and a holster made for it.

I have no opinion on the light itself.
yeah brother I'm aware of all of that. I guess my question was has anybody ever dealt with this before I did extensive research before I bought the light and everywhere I read said that it can handle the recoil so I don't know if it's user error or something I'm doing wrong I do have one IWB non-light bearing holster but my range holster and my other IWB are both light bearing. thank you for your response

That seems like a pretty good light with an adequate attachment system.

It looks like it even has a little bar to fit in between the pic rails. Is anything worn? Have you tried contacting Holosun customer service to see if they have any suggestions? I know the 10mm can kick a bit but it shouldn't be tossing your light. Odd. Good luck, sir.

Thank you for your indulgence,

My M&P M2.0 10mil thrown off a light and sheered screws for an optic. The streamlight I have now hasn’t flown of but the screws do start walking. The optic screws have started to walk to so I went back to just using irons.

Have you reached out to Holosun with your problem? Mounting a pistol light on a pic rail can be tricky. If you have not done this already, try loosening the mounting screw as far as it will go so it will seat all the way on the rail. When mating the light to gun, place the fixed side of your light first before tightening the clamp screw. You also should have a recoil lug on the light that fits into a channel of the pic rail on the gun. I believe that light has adapters so you can position the light fore and aft as you want it. Everything on the light should fit tightly into the pic rail with no gap before you tighten it down on the gun. That's all I have, good luck with it

it does and for some reason I had the adapter plate backwards so it wasn't engaging in the slot. so I fixed it and I'll take it out later this week to try again. I will keep y'all posted thank you for your responses

only problem with getting a new light is I would need new holsters. and those aren't cheep

yeah I think I had that in backwards so it wasn't engaging in between where it was supposed to be. I believe I have fixed it now.

A lot of times the holster is an issue (is it a quality make or gun show Special by am amature?) but all WML can have some risk of issues.

Folks don’t like my view but I have been instructing (both agency wise and private sector) before WML and have seen them come into favor

They cause more problems than they are worth period. I won’t even get into the amount of folks that sweep things they shouldn’t (even agencies have a history of discipline on traffic stops when they forget their had held and use their WML to read drivers license)

You have the option to find another WML and holster set up that works better
Safariland Alien gear, Veggar and LAS Concealment are some great quality makes

OR simply run without a WML outside of a true duty use WML are way overrated and generally a security blanket in 80 degree weather.

But you do you!

Good luck

EXACTLY

Another thing we found was that the holster opening was so large that a suspect was able to get his finger inside the holster during a fight and fire the pistol. The incident happened in a hospital ER. Thankfully no one was hurt; but I can only imagine it a a few spicy moments

Folks that are pro WML don’t like to hear things like that

And not the question but an interesting observation I had I was running cadets at the academy here and one stage draw 3 rounds low ready then 4 rounds low ready then 3.

At every low ready every cadet without a WML came all the way down muzzle off meat. Cadets with WML barely came off the sights so instead of pointing at the X ring the muzzle was at the 9 ring (we don’t use B27!” But I use the 10 and 9 ring as a reference)

And I have seen the same thing with 15 year vets as well so it’s across the board and not just new baby cops.
So that tells me you have cops pointing their WML aka gun at things they don’t need to shoot.

And any episode of On Patrol Live will show the same thing!

There are a few that so it right but few and far between

I carry a Surefire 6p in a cargo pocket and have a TLR1 weapon mounted light on my carry guns. The holster is Blackpoint Tactical molded specifically to that gun and light and I have no issues with safety or security. I also have weapon lights on my shotgun, my AR's, and my PCC.

Proper use of the light is a training issue and requires some thought. Using the WML as a regular flashlight is stupid and reflects poor training. That's what a handheld light is for. However, you can light up a room by reflecting the light off the ceiling or wall without covering the people. Like everything else, training makes a difference. In my opinion, a weapon light or tactical handheld should have momentary on, constant on, and off switch. I think strobes overcomplicate things

I worked nights for 7 years of my career. A good light was my most important piece of equipment for officer safety, next to.my firearms.. In SWAT we had Surefire lights mounted on our shotguns and MP5's. Pistol mounted lights had not become prominent then but would have been welcome. It does not have to be night for us to need to look into dark places.

I have attended low light instructor training and have trained many in low light shooting. There is just no comparison between the hit ratio of scores with and without a light. I routinely put "don't shoot" targets in the mix and shooters often killed the don't shoot targets when they had no.light. Target ID is important.

Get the proper equipment and training and a good weapon light adds a dimension to your defensive firearms. Or at least have a good handheld available and master a shooting technique like Harries of FBI with it. Finally, if you are going to use the technology, know how to employ it.
