I've talked about this before a bunch of times. I worked as a security guard in Colorado Springs for 15 years.
The city had requirements for what a security guard could carry.
Revolvers could only be .38 or .357 Magnum. The barrel had to be more than four but less than 6 inches. No SAOs.
Semi-automatics could only be .40 Smith & Wesson or 9 mm. In Denver it was only 9 mm or .45 ACP. I have no idea how they arrived at these criteria. I know that semi-automatics had a minimum barrel length but I never heard of a maximum. Barrel had to be a minimum of 4 inches. Again, no SAOs.
HSS had a list of approved manufacturers. That's because the first time that HSS armed the guards everybody went out and bought a damn High Point.

FWIW neither company permitted any leeway in terms of the holster. G4S and HSS each issue the exact same duty belt. The only difference was HSS made you go buy your own.
G4S didn't even let you pick your gun. They issued me a Smith & Wesson M&P 40 and that was it. I don't know if it is because it was theirs it was never really mine but I never really liked that gun.
This has nothing to do with the topic but I remember when they took it out of their arms room to issue it to me. The "armorer" brought it out opened up the box and I don't know if this was standard or he noticed that it had a magazine in it. Long story short that gun had gone into The Arms Room and been sitting there for God only knows how long loaded with a round in the chamber. He threw a fit.
I had to carry the same gun every shift. And it never occurred to me to get bored with it or want to carry something else.
When I worked for Allied, I carried a Glock 19 if I was on an armed site and a Glock 26 if I was working on an "unarmed" site.
Bottom line, I never really got to pick what I liked to carry. I met their criteria or I took what they issued me and I made it work.
That's why my "carry rotation" is two guns. I like my Glock 26 but I bought it specifically to carry when I worked on an "unarmed" site and I'm retired now. I do periodically take it out in the back 40 and shoot it though.
