New Ronin 10mm lock back

My new Ronin would lock back every other clip. During troubleshooting I discovered brass case filings inside the mag well, specifically on the bottom of the slide stop lug. Put a couple rounds in the magazine and with the slide locked back I could see where rounds were making contact with the bottom of the slide stop lug. Removed the slide stop and observed exactly where the rounds were making contact, shiny spot. Got my Dremel out and carefully removed just enough material to where rounds were no longer making contact with the slide stop lug. It took maybe five tries. After the Dremel work, have not had a single lock back in about 150 rounds. Ammunition used; AAC. Excellent ammo by the way.
Another quality job well done. Damn I love this pistol.

Voiding the warranty was the least of my worries. I wanted a reliable shooter. A new slide stop $30 or so.

Sometimes bad habits are hard to break. You are correct. So what did you think of my fix?

May I suggest getting a good set of gunsmith files and stones. One slip with a dremel tool and you have another problem

Just a question, are you sure your thumb didn’t hit the slide stop during recoil, this is very common on 1911’s, happens to the best of us

I’ve solved many issues with 1911’s by switching out magazines. GI surplus magazines are for the most part crap

Yes, clever fix. I don't think I'd take that on myself though. I would've probably sent it back to the manufacturer so as not to ruin an excellent factory warranty. But that's just me. I'll swap springs, polish parts, replace parts, etc, but leave the detail work to folks smarter than a bass player.

Does the premature slide lock happen with other ammo? Are you familiar with the term "tolerence stacking"?

I don't shoot AAC often but it's always worked for me. I have not shot it in my Ronin.

As Cliff said "Tolerence stacking" always 2 types of tolerance "optimum tolerance " and "accepted tolerance " if you get 1 part that's "accepted tolerance " usually ok the gun will run,but get 2 or 3 it all adds up to parts fouling or sticking.
As others have said if it was me would have sent it back,if it had to go back for anything else in the future then they see the fix and void the warranty.
