New Shower

Has anyone here changed their tub to a shower? I do not want anything fancy. Just remove fiberglass tub enclosure and install shower enclosure. We had one company come in and give us a quote and they wanted over $10 Grand! I can't believe it costs that much. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Are you any good at plumbing ? You can buy a fiberglass base and fiberglass wall panels.

It is easy to do. The trick is to make sure you get a shower base with the drain on the same end as the existing tub. Otherwise you end up doing plumbing work also. Yank the old unit out, be prepared to replace the drywall behind the tub walls. Depending on the base you may have to put in mortar-mix pillars wet when seating the base. Nothing you can't mix up in a bucket with a trowel. Glue the wall to your new drywall, I'm fond of liquid nail from a caulking gun then spread with a jagged trowel.
 10 grand????? I don't think so. Then I'm cheap.

my wife and i was going to do a solid surface material, but don't remember the brand. they can make it look like granite, marble or just a solid color. material is about 1/2" thick and will make them to your specifications. drain location and style may require a saw or hole saw, but can get a 3-side panels w/base and either glue or screw it into place. the good thing about it is it handles a wide range of chemical use and can easily be repaired by cutting out any damaged piece with and extra material you have from your order. this way it matches and gets buffed out with no signs of being repaired. don't remember cost per square foot or inch though?

When you get one installed, found you a perfect shower curtain…..

My local company called me back with a very reasonable price for removal of old tub surround and install new acrylic shower surround and re-plum and repair walls around enclosure. They will be here October 20th. They had to order shower from Kohler. One less headache to worry about.

i am tired, and i was on my feet all day...

my nap time is coming up, as soon as the a/c cools down my tv room.

i read your title fast and with blurred eyes.

i thought it said......"new shooter"

that being said, for us here...NO...our house is too old, and all the bathrooms (3 in total) are way too small and narrow

however there are quite a few local (to me) tub and shower in 1 day companies here...

and on the tv there is the Jacuzzi company that does this as well

lots does need to be done, new subflooring, concrete liner, possible blue board and plumbing.

How much does it cost to take out a tub and replace with a shower?
