Yep. I have the holster drawer AND the stomach callouses from wearing shitty setups while figuring it out. It's absolutely a process and requires tuning. And sometimes what sucks out of the box, is your dream setup when tuned. CCW is a commitment to be sure.
When it comes to tuning don't be afraid to try out various wedges and play with the angle/cant of your carry. That's just as important as where you carry. My holster needed the gun tilted forward a bit so the grip rises above the beltline a bit more and I can slip my fingers under more readily and the clip ensures it's always in the proper place for that.
