THat, and pet dogs
Like many other Nationalities who immigrate to the US, legally or otherwise, the biggest issue that causes problems is the new immigrants absolute refusal to assimilate. Everyone talks about how immigrants built the USA and I don’t disagree…but those immigrants were PROUD to assimilate, PROUD to learn English, PROUD to interact with other US Citizens.

Just recently, Gov Abbott had to put an end to the Muslim/Sharia law only neighborhood that was being built. This is the exact “OPPOSITE” of assimilation…but folks still don’t get it.

“A controversy arose in 2024–2025 regarding a planned, 400-acre, Muslim-centric residential development named EPIC City (or "The Meadow") located near Josephine, Texas, about 40 miles northeast of Dallas.”

Teddy Roosevelt on assimilation:

Assimilation and "One Loyalty": Roosevelt declared that immigrants must become "in every facet an American, and nothing but an American". He opposed divided allegiances, stating, "We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language".

Theres a better than good argument that "freedom of religion" was NEVER meant for Judaism, Catholics, and DEFENITLY not islam as well as a few others. Jefferson made a point to say islam was not welcome in the US.

As late as 1780 it was illegal to be a Baptist in Virginia. I can only imagine how they would have dealt with muslims.
The Barbary Pirates of the time gave Jefferson plenty cause to dislike the Muslim culture.

The USA doesn't guarantee freedom of cult.

It was meant to stop any state from declaring/favoring one religion over another and declaring all others be literally chased out and outright banned. States were literally chasing out and whipping people across their borders to another state. THAT is what the Separation of Church and State is about. NOT keeping the Manger Scene off the local firehouse property.

Quite frankly, religion should not be taught in our public schools. It should be respected and acknowledged, but not taught without the context to our history and founding in the Constitution. Private schools are different.

To keep freedom of religion guaranteed in the 1st Amendment in perspective, it helps to note that English kings were calling catholics treasonous and exececuting them in the 16th and 17th centuries. Our founders were sensitive to that kind of thing. But Islam was not recognized as a legitimate religion in the day as shown in Jefferson's writing. I have know of ministers who even today refer to Islam as a false religion.

The Catholic Church also had its claws in competing with ALL of the ruling kingdoms at that time. There were times when the church controlled the crown, and vice versa. That is what our Founders were trying to prevent here.
