OMG I Started A Fight

I depart from Beloit on I39 in Winnebago County, usually re-enter on 47 in McHenry County. I am quite aware the sheriffs outside of Cook county are cool, but how is one to be sure? I'm unwilling to risk my future right to carry based on IL law, which will affect me in WI. You guys are insane. Hence my ivotar

I used to work in Rockford (go up there to grocery shop now) and live in Harvard. I was also shooting at D5 in Marengo for a little bit. So I do understand why you do what you do. Personally I’m a little more cautious when I’m up that way because of the Chicago people. I moved to LaSalle/Peru and it’s a little different from up there.

In 1985, I was on active duty with the Marines, transferring from NH to WA. 3200 miles or so. My wife and children went ahead of me by jet, and I drove our car cross country. It so happens that I owned a S&W .357 magnum revolver, which went under my seat loaded, because I was headed for some fairly hostile cities where I would need to stop, some in the middle of the night. My butt puckered somewhat when I entered NY and saw the sign which indicated a one-year mandatory jail sentence for un-permitted firearms. The double-pucker came when shortly after that, the NYSP pulled me over. I took my chances and did not reveal that I had a weapon under my seat, and he didn't ask. Me and my flat-top haircut, military ID, and story of where I was headed and why...probably saved me from a ticket and a trip to jail.

Now, now…someone was responsible for producing said daughter, yes? And raising her right?

Again not me.

I've told this story before but my daughter walked a very crooked road.

Her first husband was a drug trafficker. We don't know all the details. But there's no possible way she didn't know what he was doing for a living. We suspect that the only reason that she wasn't arrested with him is because the authorities didn't want to deal with putting three kids in foster care.

He got arrested. Again I don't know all the details but his family told him to keep his mouth shut, take a plea bargain and go to prison and they would make sure that his wife and kids were taken care of.

Daughter had enough and left him. The only one of her children that wanted to maintain any kind of relationship with the father was her oldest son.

FWIW Father is doing life in Texas now.

I have no idea if this was true but the rumor I heard was the family decided that the oldest son needed to be with him and were in theory willing to kill her to get him.

She left the oldest son with us and vanished from the face of the Earth for 8 years.

I never asked, I don't know if she ever told my wife but to prevailing opinion is that she was living as an illegal alien in Mexico. She came back with a Mexican husband and four Mexican babies.

None of the kids that went with her and that she brought back spoke any English. It's still their second language. As far as her children and her are concerned the world is divided into two subdivisions, the family and everybody else.

She enrolled them in school in Colorado Springs and all of them had to go ESL. The school didn't have anybody to interpret for spanish-spaking parents so she started doing it. She became an advocate for the Spanish-speaking parents and the school created a position for her as an admin assistant. She Rose from the position of admin assistant to head admin assistant of the school.

A couple years after she started working for the school they got a new principal. I don't know how to explain it but she and the new principal became business partners.

He left his position at the school to become the CEO of a charter school that has campuses in I think four different states. He signed some kind of agreement that he would not hire her away from the school for a certain amount of time after he left it. Whatever the amount of time was the day it expired he offered her a position as the COO of the charter school. She's worked there for 12 years I have no idea what she makes but it's in the high six figures.

My point is that we did not turn her into that person. 8 years living under the radar wherever she was living turned her into that person.

I can relate somewhat. I raised both of my daughters, showing them each the correct path, behavior and responsibilities by parented by example.
We have been very close since they were children, and through adulthood until recently. One daughter is very much in my life as she always has been, same with my grandchildren on her side. At 42 years old, my youngest daughter married her 3rd husband. He has wealth, is financial stable, but is heavy into smoking dope (and who know what else) and is an alcoholic. My daughter has disowned me because she thinks I should like him and I've expressed that I don't and why. I won't lie to her. I'm not abrasive about it, but simply let her know where I stand, and that I love her. She has taken up the same bad habits he has, and I disapprove of how both are running their lives, The grandchildren on her side are exposed to it as well, and even they as teens, don't like it. Parenting can only go so far. When kids wander from how they were mentored, the parents are NOT to blame.

Every year on New Year's Day I change out the ammunition in my carry pistol.

The 2 boxes of Speer Gold Dots that I carried in 2025 got unloaded from my Glock 19 and my M&P9 and it went into my emergency stash and every so often I take some of it down to my range and shoot it.

Then I loaded up three magazines for the M&P 9 and 3 magazines for the Glock 19 and that's what I'll carry this year.

Now I'm curious, does anybody here think I'm actually dumb enough that for the next 364 days I will never unload either my M&P 9 or my Glock 19 and put range ammunition in them and go out inb the back 40 and shoot?

Because, I posted this on another form and people went crazy. They were talking about how if I never fire my guns how do I know they work?

And one guy says he buys a 50 round box of gold dots every week and shoots the ammunition that's in his gun and reloads it. So he's spending 1500 bucks a year just on self-defense ammunition? If he's buying a box a week.

I mean, how stupid can people get?
Eh, there are a couple people here who I’d be surprised if they can walk and chew gum simultaneously.
