Open carry is for fools!

A really loud bang usually gets attention. Most people run in the opposite direction when it comes to a crowd. Alcohol and drugs might put a different perspective in some cases. Either way brandishing could go in the wrong direction when it comes to a large crowd. Plain and simple if you're looking for trouble you just might find it. No matter who's side you're on. Just a opinion.

There was not a lot of "thinking" about logical consequences going on out there in Kenosha. We see a lot of that kind of stupidity here in Florida during Spring Break. Add firearms to the mix, and well.....
Same here on the MS Gulf Coast. Big spring break. A good deal of any violence hasn't been from college students. It was from outsiders that had different motives. One year on weekend 4 people get shot. One being a cop. Following year the police show with tactical gear and rifles. Problem solved. Spring break here for the locals is a dumpster fire.

Gotta disagree. By same logic could say instead of just grabbing the weapon it would be a more violent initial contact or a larger group attacking the perceived threat.

Not so much a commentary on open carry, just I don’t believe people because of that incident would be more passive. I think it goes the other direction and escalates faster. The lesson learned may be to assume they will shoot and act accordingly
Folks are stupid. Any thinking person isn’t going to attack someone armed with a rifle—-yet they did. I don’t think future morons will be deterred either.

Unfortunately stupid on the rise.

It was mentioned MS gulf spring break got rowdy but Swat officers all tac out and problem solved. So is it’s more the person holding the firearm than just the firearm?
That and the city of Biloxi wouldn't issue any vending permits. I'm less than a half a mile off the gulf. Some of these kids are animals. They not only raise hell they leave their trash that takes almost 2 weeks to clean up. I get the revenue thing but what about the people that live here. Cops weren't playin this year. Especially when one of their own gets shot.

Ironically the Dixie Mafia was/has been based here for quite some time. Biloxi is steeped in Vice. The military has base's here Navy and Air Force. Major training depot for the US Army in WW2 so there was a demand for prostitution, booze and gambling. Gambling is legal here now and they don't call it the Redneck Rivera for nothing. It was (organized crime). Not a free for all. Anyway constitutional carry here. And you'd be a fool to advertise. "A armed society tends to be a polite society". You never know who's carrying.

Given the way their lack of fear turned out for them I think it's likely to give people in that situation in the future pause.
Given the the fact that Rittenhouse had tens of thousands in legal fees, was arrested, had to pay an one million dollar bond, and he was at the mercy of a jury with regards to whether he'd spend his live in a max prison with locked away (unarmed) with violent thugs, it should give OC'er pause as well to not make themselves targets.

Ok. That wasn’t the point we were discussing but…….

I'm not sure why but my gym seems to attract open carry idiots.

There was 180 to use to come in and he'd make sure everybody in the gym saw that damn gun on his hip and then put it in that cheap particle board wall Locker that they give you at Planet Fitness.

I'm amazed somebody didn't rip the door off the locker and take it

While I won't do open carry, it may be the only viable option for some folks. Choice is always good, IMO. I might not choose it but someone else might and I don't have a problem with that.

Under what circumstances would open carry be the only viable option for somebody?
OC without a permit is legal in my state. Anyone 18-20 can't legally obtain a CPP, but they can legally OC. They can't buy a handgun, but they can be gifted one. They can't buy an 14.5" AR pistol but they can buy a 16" AR carbine. None of it makes sense... Other than the aforementioned, people who can't afford to take a CCP class, are waiting for their CCP application to be approved, or nonresidents who don't have a CCP that my state recognizes.

The reality is, people who fit the criteria above aren't the people who typically are choosing to OC.

In my state, prior to about 2002, it was illegal to conceal and carry. Or have a loaded gun in your car. There were no permits for CCW. Open carry was legal in most places other than the city of STL and KC. You were still gonna get hassled by cops for it, but it was technically legal and you would beat it in court.

That's the only circumstance I can think of. And for the record, I didn't open carry then or now. If I felt I needed a gun I carried one, but it wasn't where anyone could see it.
