Prodigy comp (any better?)

The newer ones seem to have less issues and the 4.25 comp gets a lot of good reviews, but there are still occasional reports of problems. The safety is a rare issue and isn’t anything to worry about, in my opinion. It can be hit and miss with the Prodigy, but Springfield has great customer service if you do have an issue, but I believe that overall the issues have been greatly exaggerated. Their are many people like myself who bought their Prodigy the first day they were available me and have been shooting them trouble free since then. BTW, my 5 in Prodigy goes blow-for-blow with my SAO 226 Legion.
 
I've never had my slide hang up while firing, or even while pulling the slide fully to the rear and releasing. Folks that are balancing it on the disconnector by hand are doing something that will never happen during live fire and creating issues for "views."

Surprisingly, my 3.5 is an incredibly comfortable gun to shoot.

If you're planning to do any USPSA or SCSA competition, don't get the comp. For IDPA and 3-gun, it's fine.

I bought a used Prodigy 4.25 about a year ago and it has the safety issue as well as the slide hanging up (only when gently releasing the slide). I'm pretty sure it was an earlier production model. I ended up selling it, and now I'm considering the comp model and just hoping i wouldn't have to deal with those same issues.

I agree, for me it was just knowing that it wasn't supposed to do that bothered me. Also, not running any competitions, just burning powder and slinging lead and brass...

You don’t want to gently release the slide on any gun. You can always put a marvel cut on the stripper rail. My gunsmith does it. I’m thinking of talking my Prodigy to him because the disconnect bump on it is so obvious when you rack it.

Not supposed to do that according to who, and why? That's not a valid test of any component of any XX11 gun.

If it's because "that's what people on the internet said," those are the people who don't understand how guns work. Listening to them will get you bad advice on how to spend money to fix things that aren't problems.

MIM is usually their next "spend more money" trope.
 
I started my Prodigy journey with a 5" non comp model production date Nov. 2023, it was a complete mess from day one. I could not get through more than 50 to 100 rounds without the optics plate coming loose. I owned it for 3 to 4 months. It spent 75% of that time in SA's warranty department. It had also developed a hammer follow issue. To my surprise SA offered to replace it with a brand new 5" Prodigy comp model, production date May 2024. Of course I accepted the offer.
I am currently over 5k perfectly flawless rounds fired. Last week the plate did come loose. I consider that a win.
I would not think twice about the Podigy comp and would buy another in an instant.

Rest easy on the plate issue, a member here at TAL has informed me a day or two ago that the problem with the optics plate was indeed not a "defect" problem, the problem was that I do not understand how screws and bolts work.

What torque are you using on the plate-to-gun screws, and are you using any sort of threadlocker (which changes the appropriate torque value)? Are you re-using screws or replacing them?

I was that member... and the advice stands. Most people aren't using a torque wrench, and if they are they're using dry torque on wet mounts (loctite, etc.) which is over-stretching the screws, potentially.
