Range Report: 10-10-10 and 2-2-2 Drills, 5/4/23

Hey guys!

It seems like it's been a week since I posted a range report. It was a slow day at the original Fletcher Arms facility so I was able to run a few timed 10-10-10 drills. I also ran a few 2-2-2 drills not timed, but I believe they were under the 9 seconds that Hackathorn allows. I shot another 100 rounds of 9mm WWB without a single malfunction. Mark this day on your calendar! I got my choice of lanes when I arrived so I chose my favorite #10. I'm continuing to practice at 10 yards for this entire session.

I was going to practice with the XD9, Garrison, and P22 but I ran out of time so I did not get to use the .22. I was meeting the grandkids for supper and they got hungry early.

I did not get a picture of the results of my first 10-10-10 drill. It was pretty mediocre but the second drill was one of, if not the best I've done. Here's a video of both.

Here's the results on target for 10-10-10 drill #2.

I'm actually not sure if I had a double hit in the 9 ring or the 10 ring but I counted it as 96 points rather than 97. I'm not going to complain. Then, as usual, after a good run I always get a little lackadaisical. The next few 10-10-10 drills weren't much to write home about.

I seem to be getting worse with each target. Target #5 was my last 10-10-10 drill for the day.

So now we'll move on to slow fire, un-timed accuracy. I hope.

Well, drat! Let me see if I can figure out what's going on. I'll concentrate on that front sight and make sure it doesn't move. OK, #7 is looking better.

Moving on to target #8 "accuracy" we see a ragged hole slightly low and left just out of the black. At least I'm consistent.

Just for grins and giggles, here's the bottom B-8 just so I can see the overall "accuracy". Ha!

I've been planning to do some strong hand and weak hand practice. I saved my last two magazines of 9mm to practice with the 2-2-2 drill. That's two shots with regular grip, two shots strong hand only, followed by two shots weak hand only. Sometimes I will go across the lanes to make sure I'm lining up with the thirty foot line.

I shoot this drill all on center mass. Here is the first string. I guess it's not terrible since it's been a very long time that I practiced this drill.

AJFCJaX5G2FXiwQPeQGJKIURHEpbXakACc-jEPt8Ija7rk-_1dubPx_a36Tb8O-tA2HIGEir4NP0n3fTFfx4ptvt3ZShQ9f_cqRPLAV9-qQa3FyypwbWzoEMbrNzYh9fs6oC14HRmU8JTSdGrhxfg60We70VfQ=w1236-h927-s-no

Drill #2 spread out a little. I don't know which shot was so low/left but I would guess it was my weak hand.

The third, and last, 2-2-2 drill tightened up a bit.

OK, that's 100 rounds of WWB 9mm with nary a malfunction. How about that? For my Garrison I brought a box of LAX ammo 230g new brass. I had a partial box, dozen rounds or so, of Norma left from a training class a couple weeks ago so I shot it up too. I pasted some reactive circles on the silhouette. My plan was 10 hits on the 8" bulls and 7 hits on the 4" bulls to practice my "aim small, miss small". The top bull had a couple of really low/left but the other two were not too terrible.

You might remember that I have two 10 round and three 7 round magazines for my Garrison. Hence the plan for my shot strings. I replaced the stick-ons and the next target was a little better. The top bull had only one flyer out of the circle.

The bull I stuck on center mass took all ten hits.

Then I got dangerously close with all seven hits on the small bull.

Somehow I ended up with eight rounds left over. I had a fresh B-8 target so I figured, why not?

Drat, two hits just out of the black. But still, I think I'm finally getting a lot less low/left out of this pistol. I must continue to think, "Front sight! Front sight! Front sight!" in order not to anticipate or look over the sight to find the impact. That's a bad habit of mine. I want to see where the hit lands before I've even pulled the trigger. Doh! I'm also beginning to think that upgrading the sights on this pistol will help these old eyes, SpeedSights (like my XD9) or TruGlo TFO.

Anyway, Mrs. BassCliff has been texting me that the grandkids are hungry so I'm going to meet them at the Mexican joint for an early supper. This was a fairly productive session but I didn't get to practice any malfunction drills. <chortle!> Thanks for coming along. You guys are great. Monday I have another advanced defensive skills clinic that should be a lot of fun. I'd heard our instructors will be drilling us with strong hand and weak hand only drills, hence my practice. I'll let you know how it goes. Blessings to all.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
