Hey gang,

It was a cool, wet afternoon when I made my way over to the older facility after lunch. Following a double bacon cheeseburger and onion rings I was ready to punch holes in paper.

AP1GczP6Wsfr6IQnOZ6iDY6F-yl_PCzlpQrlKpVAPqSlvn7ctp_4nF_mg5Gjof3VD9zvvF9XfRmNr_cCBoUsdCzKDyeo9wuJivfsOP9WVPVqV0vha5KWKpaBolI8W4i4ivOSN7SW9H7abxOTaV3epC5d5E5JJA=w1651-h929-s-no

When I arrived someone was in my favorite lane! Can you believe it? The nerve of that guy!

AP1GczNdXW8a5HH4EViOvB8UvtXy41XN3UNnwJ7I9Uo8F2eseNpRmSfYOIpyK4NMa251SWKbXaFPViR5ScZdjgs7voEs6dCDSHaQJ1zIl5sILlcj4NtzYn5kFIqeT2BKMy12x2jBogCcwDtRFJhaKrgGHVKZ7Q=w1651-h929-s-no

Oh, but it's OK. He was just finishing up. I told the clerk I would wait patiently for the gentleman to vacate the premises, then take that lane. It was fortuitous timing. Ahh, now I feel at home.

I'm still dirtying up the pistols from last week, my new XDM Elite 4.5" OSP 10mm and the Ruger Mark IV. I brought a couple of different .22 ammo to test for consistency. The XDM gets the Freedom 180 grain 10mm.

I had emailed Springfield about the magwell/basepad/magazine conundrum I was having. I bought the pistol new with two magazines. Included in the box was a couple of extra basepads and the magwell kit. However, all the basepads were the same and none of them fit when the magwell is installed. The response from Springfield said I should not have received the magwell with my purchase and they don't sell the basepads for the 16-round magazines. I'm pretty sure the 16-round magazines will work with the magwell but I want to make sure before I order five of them. I know folks like Springer Precision make basepads but they're not exactly cheap and for a few bucks more I can just get new magazines. I'm not sure if the Springer basepads will work with the factory magwell either. Oh, what's a bass player to do? 🤔 But I digress.

Anyway, I found myself alone on the range for a few minutes so I made the mistake of trying a cold 10-10-10 drill with my new 10mm pistol. It did not go well.

At the beep I fired off 10 shots and you can see that NONE of them hit the black, plus I was over par time. I'll have to work with this pistol a little bit more before I try that again. Yuck! I stuck with slow fire (1-2 seconds) mediocrity for the rest of the session. A patched-up target #2 got a few hits near the center, and one waaaay off.

AP1GczM2VRaKZVsfNwQsZNEP3Lop-wLlHT3Iuk4syl2xB8kg7-4vWNZ4mbDyudLoFrXEpKCvd1i9colGOvKsa81ACjNJejTJDhaCp_3vqninlkPbBJXNhZy3Xuimiep80at4Q7rprU68mw7TWhPENR5jIbydCg=w1651-h929-s-no

I do believe target #3 was the best target of the day. Yes, there are 10 hits on this target, three in the 9 ring, three in the 10 ring, and four in the X ring. I wish I could get more hits touching together. ;)

AP1GczPq_v9fSCH4l3qnRZHM-eJmoc0SP6KMlGoKJ679ZdzA1Di2jYhhl5FrLzFuRUwJViIE1qGS4A-ny98NCGognj2DbuG20gkRJS7zqHBkg6_OP1pVCsNGCiY9zHSZ9V8_EFPSM5Lngcv2eLQplQFY3J6_vA=w1651-h929-s-no

Well, you know me. After a pretty good target I tend to get a little cocky and start shooting a little faster and looser. The next two targets showcase my mediocrity, #4 and #5.

If you give me a couple of line breaks, only one is out of the black. Am I starting to get the hang of this thing? Tell you what, let's try a shoot-n-see target. This makes me really pay attention because everyone on the range can see my hits. I'll try to put 20 more holes in target #7.

AP1GczM2p1UlFCx4KUP3dLG3OfK6srIvksZVodl1Ol5l4gls2yeh1hWDWNq-DSABlxEXubY5Llf5_THuA-J0Y_4V9fP6U0Gn96WdyMPVvynnjRYWarQzjMyMN5UdCp2zcrwiTTPOw655p0Qh-SOphL_dxPKgyA=w1651-h929-s-no

Well, I'd say I came dangerously close to getting all those hits inside the 9-ring of a regular B-8 target. That's not too bad, considering who's working with a fairly new 10mm pistol. It looks like I have ten rounds left out of the 200 I brought today. I'm going to patch this up and try to group a little tighter.

Hi! I'm back!

I think the links are quite long for my pictures and that's why the forum software complains. Here's the rest of the story....

We'll retire the XDM 10mm to the Condition 1 case and have some fun plinking with the Mark IV. Neither the Winchester nor the Federal ammo was trouble free today but the Federal ran better than the Winchester.

AP1GczNHx6xnGyxqktpT1VOagY6axoVIQz0CM8NfDxUtaz4GzXGKjtbAqdTluCOl9iIDR17b2M2pbxg-dHATSy8OOddkj3KHVf5SB2QSIHP9ngzQiAQsn0txUrB4FIPKFexb6xOFZJ3UKMRjrh2zMRjJKWGEMQ=w1651-h929-s-no

There were several stovepipes with the Winchester but the Federal had a few more duds. It's the nature of the beast. I've got a few CCI Mini-mags to try next. Those are supposed to run in anything. Here's target #1 with 50 rounds of the Winchester.

AP1GczNCJ5gwo4utMo1ApOpMIb9SRdQOI5O_beyCEsJChm9KqeUY5me6v27WjmI0XXGv_d5Pbw7UCeBkeYerCTsrUKhCW6g-HhiTO0uKTfISw7dZPz_VSBzoOkb821CZamhEGda5cKe7FXuZm_GLk6matVx28g=w1651-h929-s-no

Target #2 gets 50 rounds of the Federal. I managed to get a raggedy hole in this one.

AP1GczPlOW5cP6RwVqo4OSRKBVdINyNRVTOpds3LlYsWEIe5jm3L1xG1Yb_qq9AUQ0ZOY_nTExyO7yF9ADTc15V7hQQA7oeiomgTxawjMsBmtJyn9f9cNRXQkrvtSLiJuxbcCmMywX_qfHLgOpWR6d3vk629EQ=w1651-h929-s-no

But I think I need to use less of a six o'clock hold for this pistol, until I can get the elevation adjusted a bit. I'm going to move this target out to 15 yards and try a little less six o'clock for the next 50 rounds of Federal ammo.

AP1GczNn9AegVu6km_-Ley6szmVs1ghjQKqfhESJAN3EBFwaTP_Vj7Rj3XHXDz2AI6ZxPS0IpyPrhZvutBC5-H42LKRpt7FINzKFSf6SbAcpwtLnuY9ck6ZXBmuzuiITnLhT3Wq0KCgxIURKHV1_Nd28lzIO2Q=w1651-h929-s-no

Well, that's pretty average. I'll try something different with my sight picture for the next 50 rounds of Winchester ammo, at 15 yards.

AP1GczPrdZIspSSJ0jO1BJT0phzL13hmL6FRC2z_2Q8qzOrjPI8p2uQujQVGngfnbeFLu3m3BRb0e5K_mv0zn-Eb6QH7q_DftuUNPF2d8If-1K29R5y39i6ht1dZXm2AtXGCH1K78GopPGQ31v3VJYyUr57epw=w1651-h929-s-no

That's a little better. Is the Winchester varmint ammo more accurate? Or am I just paying more attention to detail? Let me try something else back at 10 yards. I'm using Federal to put 20 hits on center and 10 hits on the other circles. (I've got five 10-round magazines for this pistol.) Here's my last target for today.

AP1GczNR_kZl4_67diETCoaWRaVLNqCfV2wgTKOGPB3RkKFXZoxeVzT9NUqNzgK4dL55Y0OSOQsnZbyK2ppMF7MRSacaKz0VV1boiNZ-fQDfsj47xWaQnoGQxWP1lYdi2h5wUmWcsLK6TgEM9z9Ba9yH-PjF7g=w1651-h929-s-no

Well, phooey! I let a couple of hits get off the upper circles. I tell you what, this is kind of a workout for this old man and his old eyes. The front sight totally covers the upper circles and the head in my sight picture. I was just trying to keep things centered and not pull the muzzle off with my trigger press. I could use some more practice, and boy, do I love to practice. ;) That center chest target looks pretty good. Let's use that for a Mark IV glam shot.

AP1GczOORnTuvi0Sf8WuUzbqYl0fSA9n6pVMje95czYf-YwDGnteSQqxllmpcaOycgoP0RMVJt0IFSqw7AF-L4M_XW0WVh56Wj8r6z90v3gUg_0b1zTH3ICmwks6tEEgaQEWY1hn1BC1_aP9UWrGR_7dz5geVA=w1651-h929-s-no

And that was my time at the range. I'm hoping to do pretty much the same thing next week, to get better aquainted with the new XDM 10mm and reaquainted with the Mark IV. It's all fun. Thanks for hanging around. Y'all take care.
