How in the world are you?
Today I got in a quick trip to the closer range, the older facility. I brought my three main .45 pistols and 150 rounds of 230 grain ball ammo. I had a plan today and I stuck to it pretty closely. For each pistol I would shoot 20 rounds on target at 10 yards. Then with a fresh target, move out to 15 yards for 20 more rounds. The last 10 rounds would be at 10 yards doing target transition double-taps. Since I usually bring my own targets, I rarely choose one from the target wall.
Since I was using iron sights today, I had to swap the lens on my shooting glasses and use the "top focal" lens for my old eyes.
I had this section of the range all to myself. I thought for a minute about running a cold 10-10-10 drill but stuck to my original plan.
Ahh, here I am at my second office, ready to punch holes in my paperwork. You know it's my favorite lane.
Is this the second or third trip in a row for this trio? I'll have to check my records. Here's my XD45 Mod2 Tactical, Garrison .45, and Sig 1911X Freedom.
I started with the XD45, 20 hits on a B-8 at 10 yards away.
Now you can't blame all that on the lousy trigger. I was rushing a little. But I do plan to install a new PRP trigger. Let's move the target out to 15 yards and punch 20 more holes in it.
Yeah, there's a bit more spread. Wow, I let one really fly. Sorry about that. Don't worry, I'll practice more. Then I noticed that the carrier line had broken. Oops. I guess I'll move over to lane #9, my second favorite.
I stuck on some small reactive bullseyes and a new B-8 center. I'll be putting double-taps on each target.
Um, yeah. Some of my double-taps were better than others. I guess I should settle another split second after target acquisition. Now we'll move on to the Garrison. Here's the first 20 rounds at 10 yards.
Yeah, that's a little rough. I should be able to get all of them in the black. Next time. During that string, I'll be danged if I didn't have a FTE. The casing got hung up and bent. That's the first time it's happened.
Let's take a little more time and try again at 15 yards.
Oof. I threw two way out that time. I guess I just have to practice more. For the Garrison's last target, here's the transition/double-tap scenario results.
I think those double-taps were better than the XD45, but neither is worth writing home about. OK, let's get a fresh target and try 20 rounds through the Sig 1911X at 10 yards.
Blast. I still let a couple get out of the black. Still, this 1911 feels real good. Let's try again at 15 yards.
I still let a few get out of the black but that's pretty good for me at this distance. I decided not to shoot the transition/double-tap scenario for my last target. I wanted to get a nice tight group on my favorite target. Here's the last 10 hits on the reactive silhouette.
I know I could do better. At least they're all in the 9 ring. I'm going to give you a glam shot just because I like this pistol.
At least I had fun. I packed up my kit.
Before I left I did a little window shopping. They let me fondle the TRP. It's very nice.
Now I'm going to take Mrs. BassCliff out for Friday fish fry. She had picked a few of her peony flowers from the front yard.
OK, I'm hungry. I'll see you guys later. Thanks for stopping by. All the best!
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
