Range Report: 9mm Galore, 7/8/26

Ronin
Friends,

I was able to fit in a quick range trip after my gig today. The plan was simple; 50 rounds through four of my bigger 9mm pistols using various targets and scenarios. I got there late, ran out of time for the last pistol, and was unable to shoot the last 20 rounds. I'll save them for next time. ;)

I went to the older, closer facility. Guess which lane I got?

AP1GczOFvPbcHAAOlazaPNqMCINRC_RQ8UgnE6CCVnh_2Zpe2YAhUIB_rm9DVbssqsq6iaWh2FHKfUtYLq7rZWz6G8ncznsKc4XLtO2v6njX3KjKHv3cXstfMjGZ7KKRJ08k63zLbic6lk4DWVDqxwbIfFLHOg=w1651-h929-s-no

On the menu today are my longer barrelled 9mm pistols: Echelon 5.28 Threaded Barrel, Echelon 4.5F comp, XDM Elite Precision 5.25, and the Glock 17L (6" barrel).

AP1GczNpyfqmbf4B-OMBuv9gdZuI1S1qmcO702Q7eLOwHlwWVXrMpW7aAWeTgbtwHoVzJGCOsjEE7IzUm60d44wibTWDXyLRd5HxgmzWzk3BLiH7CXxC3R-ebLlumip5DR_14ZszwFONzQgWUwATZpBk4Q8Kgg=w1651-h929-s-no

I began with two targets side by side in order to run some timed target transition drills. I was able to time only a few runs because of the other shooters. But I had a few good runs. This was my cold run, from low ready, two to center and one to head on both, 5.5 seconds.

AP1GczM7aZZ7PA86_XtcNgLRzsVh_5kVHA5gjzzIuJDLIwpwpVOnVsgZbyWI9isIlkOkqSjR6IV8psfNXaxn_BLLXqCvjGTaC967f5U9PLvSgDGWMBcS-qAEx14JPpOzvcmDGabO7_xmllDeD_mRWhkZd2-t_Q=w1651-h929-s-no

You'll be able to tell that I did much better with the left target head shots than the right. I dunno why. More practice, I guess. Since the other shooters were interfering with my timer, I just shot a few runs un-timed, until I hit the clip. Oops.

AP1GczMwCYBzSGfZSznOSxTz92E5vfBzuunUChOFS5hqgJEBn1cCWOK13E6LsKrll7TlbGOwO-sXsJZ8fMM0uQj5knzDSKjcey1nvHTu5GKDidwg77mrLml0H_wBeh62njsNl8s5a28_DYUXEoL2b5sCpkZ00A=w1651-h929-s-no

I did not destroy the clip. I nicked it just enough to knock the target off. Thankfully I had brought an extra target.

AP1GczMfaxV4KYawXjGNBYuK5-3XkFH-F9KRzg7CYgFXJuf5FHP30oGfRCw7PMqmwnZjd23Gsae7d5Zw2BzhutckssqER0mrQ8aU3mJ4CVIjDvUO14DfECPe9LcVnMwCZMfIPWXRLtLXhbEr_ZzFWN5BmFB87Q=w1651-h929-s-no

I shot a couple more runs and was able to time a clean run. Add a one second split time for the 6th shot.

AP1GczMdNwgQAcRLRyWp-WzL84yGXm9R-XplXOCec7hN48gyw_0lYp547vawUYtPUMc5s8btDg-zcFjxvDMYkhlJOt0EhUGtSE1OFkpbih6eCsSR_DMH0ndAgWoLKi14FrG32H_IRRZKziuxEWBvw38jghAzfQ=w1651-h929-s-no

This is what my targets looked like after a few more runs, two to center - left and right, then head shots - right and left, or vice versa. I would switch it up. All of the targets today, except one, were at 10 yards.

AP1GczN7-g9fJk08MQgLiLI2gFGbtl-znKR-SvOQix3x2r0aT78d-uVsHFGiRnI-fXKJm-l__oJ1MbLUxtHRKKyDM9_TXJUsSM21wk3a9zlICmksIYWpClW8gKYGhKPcyiTipTFhYtvNGKwlOWnBs24c48G_oQ=w1651-h929-s-no

Now I'm going to try running this drill with the G17L. This is the first run. The head shot on the right was low and right. I had trouble with the right head all session.

AP1GczNgaOlq38pU9pYBDfeAVas9-vT-hkssIj7PVYSiyuXpkkDvD1yfj3XYtgyGsoLnFLTAWpQtJwvlIkuy0TZHaKNt2ZBmy_H4soa77JwG8A5jfsBy7lBAm7FArNwnq2-1XdnrvX_buyYIuL_wHdYCS1bPjQ=w1651-h929-s-no

For some reason that run was ridiculously slow.

AP1GczNfkVccPZHuoOflhdeYG_FAybJ72XjnvTcol_ifCTtEoHVSXMNeA5gcPkTH-_tbFlQltD9erKMtvimb3yt4Cuy4HAG44piWx1LjP3UBWYrI4kHp8-Wj-wlQkoRAMeyHVS-mGCA5gWk64njSrGhcpPi1MQ=w1651-h929-s-no

Here are the targets after a few un-timed runs (total of five runs), but shooting almost as fast as I can and maintain some kind of accuracy. ;)

AP1GczOAWIClg8d_vjj7AxTFzAVC0leGi2CMFekBTppDrs1rlr9kNv4cCId-qoAykxjBpUwoOgr6QGN4__xOJPNc8CtSh9QJySz0mtgYmAzbDOdKXbCbH8DFFOjJ6dBYkfhKSzFu8uw_6K8S8YblDJLY6obBHA=w1651-h929-s-no

You can see more hits on the left head for some reason. Now I was down to an odd number of cartridges in that box so I decided to put 10 hits on a B-8 center, quickly, then transition to the head for the last four rounds.

AP1GczNvU5yzZxHwX6TzS6zRe7X9gptHMxJnLO_WJseNeDyB1QRbKpeXNYD83jfwizkVL80BzohLcups3qVkTm0_pFWhB8rzeb-dm8vasPkLkam3vW_ctx9syb5Xe-MPPnBBWjcpUkoWlMUmqTDpVN8hwp0aoQ=w1651-h929-s-no

That was a pretty good run. How about a glam shot?

AP1GczNfoUZ1HZsgJ09lWOBlTrfGYVVaTyPTdiIKlffCfKwFpp0RoXEF2exrJQZbepY-L9RtGWXTxui2ANZ4rW_w51fGywZ_TjQDVQpUO98EPXQ3nn48K4WeQBwPIg7Kzb3lLVR-YgaBKtgsezGc6labrPnAlg=w1651-h929-s-no

Next up is 50 rounds through the XDM Elite Precision. I sent out my favorite target to 10 yards and tried to put 10 hits on each bullseye.

AP1GczOWMn0eobNE6JYijbMgbzcGMGccS6KXTFZtIV5ViR-ylGg7R45c2_ZHEunKSyHNsXZClfCt5w_ZZs1V0u2XWIhAlfwi4JoCZOJgs0WzWiJjB1NfUF_jgFzDVfhe2kPDKkyS0tITDk6zmj1InXni_Y8k-Q=w1651-h929-s-no

Center mass wasn't too bad but the other bullseyes were not amazing. Still, I managed to get all the hits in the vicinity of their bullseye, barely. Even though I'm not really feeling it, I patched up this target and sent it to 15 yard for the last 10 rounds.

It came back looking like this.

AP1GczOiWqnjIiA8cuVXDwUilybShxI4E8Kdw72ZdUn9RigfoSmef6P6y8ghzGDbF4x16t63x4uOAO_6ubJFTFepdxOYFdje4lQbOeqvh-f1JO_gTmoFTb8sXmOTHYyrajQulMvj5U68rZciHW_44YJYoozF5g=w1651-h929-s-no

Perhaps I knew I was running out of time and rushed a bit too much. I'll try this again next week and do better. Let's move on to the Echelon 4.5F Comp. I did not change the lens in my shooting glasses. I tried to look under the diopter to see the optic clearly. Next time I'll swap the lens on my glasses. It just makes it easier.

AP1GczNkJiIE4wiSqGJ8oNralZXOCgqE4A_PyQDvQ1QCuy1d908HUIuTk3LKxpdQSZujUHp10ZrBSDJUQ28hzzLaOwdFI7SeaOLiDT3TtNLbjBhpTm72mIUjEroQxCBv24M4CpEqv59G6yViSo3RW7A99tEA1g=w1651-h929-s-no

I'm shooting for straight accuracy, still getting accustomed to the optic on this pistol. Hmm. A little low.

AP1GczMvn4JunJzZYO48LTXH6NJYrcL_yJrPvM_5EAq1OkaYsihGSo2VGI_O6F5meUh75nPTipHCD-_8XEhnClh5KLg--314dBa2XGjeurcjC-BDAADZ5Wcf0p4CMi-DNlDjQglYmjv7T_SEkTrKWUYpIaYdMQ=w1651-h929-s-no

So I'll tape on another B-8 center and try again at 10 yards.

AP1GczNXTTBWNirHWKmGP8CV5VpdH-zXsVRp2ZDlLGYjEpTqvymREErGfKWjQBK5g1HwAWrgnwBRTuj39DEES6BQsblWfQX0EUp8kNTTnwX_lYBM8mzbHAZ86MMeWF-hsEtdBymsj0SguvKCjtmW57KjCOKHhg=w1651-h929-s-no

Better, but still trailing a little low-left. Here's the third B-8 center.

Again, just low. Did I tell myself last week to try this from a rest to check the zero? If so, I forgot. I'll try to remember to check it next week. Maybe the zero has drifted. Maybe it's me. The RSO just gave us the 5 minute warning. I cleaned up my lane, packed up all my gear, said goodbye to the crew, and headed home. Pulling into my driveway makes me smile.

AP1GczPUQPq8nX7gTU4Pkb0M6w_AtkB5BFor5BqDBxVnp_lkstgxNYyNGFAxKQHWihgTSu48LOAEIx4XZ2sp70vsep8QX1L_pyoanubyuGXEChUdzqWYDbN-9EVT0I3TdZPRzRcEANtJJFphVJ2uWLlZXOkSXw=w1651-h929-s-no

I put 50 rounds through three pistols but the fourth (Echelon 4.5) got only 30. I ran out of time. So I guess I'll get to practice with it a little more next time.

Hey guys, you're the greatest. Thanks for hanging out with me. If I get to the range late again next week, maybe I'll shoot just a couple of pistols so I don't have to rush through all of them.

Wishing you all the best.

Thank you for your indulgence,
