Hello everyone,

Yesterday was a great day to be at the range. I had a pleasant 45 minute drive out into the country where our outdoor "sister" range is located.

It's a very nice facility out here in the middle of the farmland. One of these days I'm going to make it out here and practice with my rifles at 100 yards or so.

Our classes are held on the law enforcement range. There a huge berm around the large bay and an extra tall metal shield above.

It's a big class this evening. We start to take our positions for the first drill. The class was split into two crews. Lucky me, I was in crew #1. In a nutshell, this was the session.

[Instructors Notes]
1) Warm up: Fundamentals Drills Distance and Mixed drills out 25 yards
2) Multi-target Drill
3) Movement Drill: Lateral movement and target transitions
4) Fletcher Arms Standard Drill
5) Free Shoot on Steel

We started shooting on paper, mixed center mass and head shots from the draw, various distances out to 25 yards.

Here's the view looking up-range where we stash our gear and load our magazines.

After our "warm-ups" out to 25 yards, you can see that my longer shots were getting into the mediocre territory, a few out of the C zone. However, my head shots were OK for the most part.

Here is crew #2 running through their warm-up drills. We started at 7 yards, then went 10, 15, 20, and 25 yards.

The instructors put up new targets for our next drill.

This was a "multi-target" drill, shooting paper left to right and ending with a steel shot. Then we'd reverse.

AP1GczNXz6IC-0gyjpYQcUY4-ZcPdEfKG07OeQUTRG8Pv31824KtnHb02DGpn7ckehbaW1XYvY3a7Ck1_XskfcLVFXxT4N6h7B5we--5s9z-2cQa1RAfnVFKEHj7UK1KrFMqR14PO2hsg_FWxIM__-blLlqdsQ=w1651-h929-s-no

That drill was followed by a lateral motion drill, shooting all the paper and the steel as you traversed the range, left and right.

As the sun was setting we were shooting our timed Fletcher Standard Drill. I took this picture of a small plane flying over the moon. Yeah, I get bored easily.

We all shot our timed Fletcher Standard Drill, but I did not improve my time enough to pick up a new patch. Maybe next time. After that we got about five minutes to free shoot on the steel. These guys went nuts. Did I tell you I have video? I'll link it at the end.

Our instructors posted a picture of the class so I thought I'd share it with you. It's a good bunch of pistoleers.

Here's the video. It's starts with a little bit of crew #2 doing their warm-up. Then you'll see me on the lateral drill, three on the paper and one on the steel, in both directions. That is followed by two runs of the Fletcher Standard Drill. You'll notice that my second run featured a malfunction, failure to go into battery. I finally "tap and racked" enough so that I could finish the drill but it wrecked my time. Lastly you'll see the Cacophony of Steel as the class goes nuts on the steel targets just before we pack everything up. It was a fun session.

I've determined that the magazine was keeping my XD9 Mod3 from chambering the round. Since I label all my magazines I know which one to fix or replace. That's why we practice this stuff. We don't want things to break when we really need them to work. I appreciate you folks stopping by to marvel at my mediocrity. You're the best.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
