Reborn EDC X9 Range Report - 5 Nov 25

Had planned on hitting range yesterday, but best laid plans and all that. Dogs woke me up about 0200 to go see what was in backyard (nothing - oldest guy (11) needed bathroom break šŸ˜‚). Never really got back to sleep and never go to shoot when I feel too worn out/tired.

So today was the day! Took my CZ S2 Carry along as well as I was trying to deplete my stores of 147g 9mm ammo, 130 rounds of it were +P, and I didn’t want to put all that +P through the EDC X9.

I had planned to site in the RMR on the EDC X9 but didn’t bring any 124g so decided not to - then found I didn’t need to!

Range seems to be running low (out of) targets I prefer to use. This is best I found for getting done what I wanted to get done (see how optics were). All firing was done at 7 yds. I meant to do the EDC X9 first, but as I got ready to start noticed the target I marked ā€œCZ S2 Carryā€ was downrange. In the words of Homer Simpson - ā€œDOHā€.

So picked up the CZ and put a bunch of rounds in the top and some more rounds in the bottom targets. For this gun, it was 50 rounds of 147g Winchester Super X WinClean FMJ, followed by 80 rounds of Winchester Ranger T 147g JHP.

First 50

The rest.

Up next was the EDC X9. The transition from the CZ trigger to the EDC X9 SAO only 1911 threw me for a loop and I hit the first few of rounds a bit low šŸ˜‚. First 50, no adjustment to the Trijicon RMR that came back from Wilson Combat preinstalled - I LIKE it!

The rest. The lower ā€œbean bagsā€ were all with the Winchester 147g Ranger T JHP. For some of the lower ones, I leaned against stall walls for support, most on the left. Leaning right, I wasn’t a fan of the ejected brass bouncing off my head šŸ˜‚ šŸ˜‚ šŸ˜‚. So only a few supported shots coming from the right.

All in all, a great day. Only shooter on all ranges for the hour I was there! Depleted the 147g ammo and now all I have is 124g ammo in 9mm. Some Winchester NATO (1200 FPS) FMJ, some Federal American Eagle FMJ, and some HST (non +P). Those will be what I stock going forward (as long as I can find them for a reasonable price), And probably no more NATO once it’s gone, unless I get a new gun I want to break in.

Next week I’ll start the process of dialing in my optics for the 1150 Muzzle FPS Federal Ammo, one gun each trip! Well that, and work on this drill >

Beautiful pistols. Damn good Shootin. Where you get that glock blanket ( sorry don't know what else to call it).
It’s just a shooting towel. Just do a search for Glock hand towel or shooting towel. Probably got that one at Glock Store or something similar a few years ago when I tried my first Glock and became enamored with it. Got that all out of my system - hammer fired for me. Just haven’t gotten around to replacing the Glock towels 😃.

Hi @Lab4Us,

Yes! Couple of nice looking pistols you have there. Targets look great too. Did you notice the +P or heavier bullets making a difference in felt recoil? Just curious. I don't shoot much +P, just some NATO, but mostly 124g and some 115g ball. Looks like you had a nice time at the range. Everybody needs a towel. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I’m not very recoil sensitive, so don’t notice much +P difference with the calibers I use (with the exception of .357 Mag in a Kimber K6s 2ā€ revolver I’m silly enough to shoot every once in a while - because I think it’s pretty neat a gun that small/light can handle that load). If anything, the 147g made more of a difference than the +P. It seems to push back more that flip up, while the 124g I regularly shoot seems the opposite (except in the Beretta PX4 with its rotating barrel). Heavier rounds seems to get back on target quicker, but if measured, I’m sure the difference would be negligible.

As for the towels, somebody thinks we all need one if the phrase ā€œshootingā€ is attached. Hand towel = $2-3 give or take for quality. ā€œShootingā€ hand towel = $19.95 - $29.95 depending on brand markings šŸ˜‚ šŸ˜‚ šŸ˜‚! Same size, same function, but obviously a towel marked ā€œGlockā€ cleans and dries to perfection!
