Ruger Introduces the Marlin Trapper Model 1894 in 10mm Auto

I personally have no interest in it, but I applaud them for bringing out a companion rifle for the 10 mm hunters. When I was a hunting man, .44 Magnum Smith and Wesson and a .44 Magnum Winchester 94 were a great combination. Even though I never did find the 'perfect' load that worked in both identically, having rifle loads and handgun loads that could cross over was never a serious burden.

My Marlin 1894 "Classic" (see pic above) 44 mag is a nice companion rifle for either my 329PD or Anaconda.

I'm in, but only if it will also work with .40.

Thankfully I have a plethora of pistols in .40.

No .

Wayne first used the Big Loop for spinning in Stagecoach ( 1939 ) .

It was designed by his friend and frequent collaborator Yakama Knutt .

Rifleman series began in 1958 . Conners's rifle(s) were modified by James Stembridge . Two different Loops were used over the course of the series , in two different Winchesters . Plus a Spanish made El Tigre near clone as " stunt gun " , for when it was thrown , used as impact weapon , and for riding in saddle scabbord .

***********

Of note : To spin a M92 with 20in bbl , takes a Big Guy to have long enough arms , that the rifle doesn't smack them in the head .

Wayne ( 6'4") and Conners ( 6'6") were big enough .

IIRC the only up to this point ammo I've shot in 45-70 in frontier. Shot it in both the sbl and cb. Neither kicked like a mule. I haven't handloaded for it yet. 10mm lever looks sweet, but so far I'll stop at 44mag on the lower end. If i didn't have a 44mag then I'd consider 1. Great for those who already have a 10 in a handgun and want to keep the same cartridge in a rifle.

Shooting "Nuclear" 350 gr. & 405 gr. Buffalo Bore 45/70 max-power loads out of a 7.5 lb. Marlin 1895 "thumps you" pretty good.

the factory loads i have shoot somewhere in the 300-350grs. probably loaded @ or less than 28k. i'm going to work up to 42k from barnes. i have some swift 350a-frames that should thump fairly well when i get around too it?

if you spin to the inside, then ya, you need long arms.

if 1 were too be made in a .475 bore the 480ruger would be awesome! although there are a few 500mags out there the price is way up there. maybe 1 day i'll get 1 and a revolver to match

Wonder what the twist-rate is in the new rifle? I would only shoot my own hot loads, so I know I could maximize the power, but if the twist is off, I know it can de-stabilize those bullets.

Weight is a handy 6.3 pounds, while the overall length is 33.25 inches. The 1:16″RH twist barrel should help wring out a bit more velocity from the 10mm Auto round.

More info...

10mm ballistic by the inch

I'd take that sucker elk hunting in my state, since big game only requires 500 foot-pounds at the muzzle. That is awesome. Of course, I would keep my shots close, so...COOL!

This might be my next purchase!

Depending on weights and velocities you should be good out to 100 yards with a 16"

Per barrel inch it won't average a +20fps over the 5 or 6". The slowing down is a misconception as velocities slow per inch, but still gains velocity. The issue being not enough pressure per powder charge to maintain X amount. Best guess is +10fps from 5" to 16" with that cartridge, so don't get hopes up on a +20 the full length past 6".
