i love my 2.5" Ruger GP 100......for practice, it gets fed .38 specials.

but when i get around to it, like maybe with-in the next 43 years, i'll bet me a nice leather holster, and load it up with 357 HP's...

i originally wanted the 6" barrel, but this was during the pandemic, and all they had was the smaller one.

I really wish Ruger would upgrade the SP101 series to 6 shot for the 38/357 models. It's definitely do-able.

If I was going to upgrade to a six shooter I'd go with the Colt King Cobra Carry, but I'm sure there be a pretty big weight difference between it and the SP 101.

Had one, really liked the feel but for sone reason I just could not shoot it worth a darn.

Traded it off for the Mode 60 and very ok with the swap.

Actually, the KC Carry and the SP101 2" weigh the same (26 oz). But my point was that the SP101 doesn't need to be any bigger than it currently is to be expanded to a 6 round capacity. I really don't understand why Ruger hasn't done this - it would definitely make the SP101 more appealing.

Not overly worried about the difference between 5 and 6 personally. I cannot say I ever remember feeling underarmed with 5 rounds as opposed to 6.

I don't spend much time wandering the streets of Detroit either...

I had an SP101 snubby for a while. It’s a gorgeous gun but my delicate artist hands did not enjoy .357 out of it. It was like holding on to an electrified barb wire fence. I bought a box of .357 and a box of .38 when I bought it and never even shot both boxes. I gave them to @KillerFord1977. Now I have to con him out of them so I can shoot ‘em through my new Henry.

Considered them in the past but heard they had heavy trigger pulls, so gravitated to 686's.

I think you heard wrong. The Security / Service, Speed Six can have a very nice trigger pull. Mine is very good and totally factory. I do think that as a whole the S&W has a better average action on them. I like the S&W action better than a Colt's (but that is me) The GP-100 and SP-101 I am not familiar with but in the Redhawk the mainspring does double duty as the hammer spring and the trigger return spring and can be problematical.

Trigger on my SP101 is fine. Of course T man's requirements for a trigger on a revolver are likely more evolved than mine.
