Having a series of rifles and carbines adapted for the arduous environment of the Arctic north should come as no surprise from Finnish company Sako. Sako’s new ARG – Arctic Rifle Generation is purpose-built for Arctic warfare and tested to NATO D14 standards.

Just what the world needs, yet another AR knockoff. I’d have hoped for better from Sako….
It was designed for Military contracts in Europe, Scandanavia. It may eventually come to America, maybe.
Sure at some point, but their core customer was not complaining Americans.

Sako builds great rifles-I’m just disappointed that they didn’t use an original design. I mean, literally, everybody makes AR platforms these days. Does any major player NOT make an AR? ( maybe the problem is just me-I’m not an AR fan😏). The AR, the 1911, and the “Glock” are all made by everyone these days. I’d sure like to see some true innovations rather than recycling the same thing (over and over and over and over).

Most Military and LEO agencies wont go with unproven or radical designs.
Look how few countries adopted the bullpups and no LEO’s that I’m aware of use them outside of the few countries armed forces that also use them. Look at how few countries adopt widespread use of other cartridges as well. The G36 platform didnt take off and there are many others.
Sako produced what their home markets requested

Not only that, but with Finland joining NATO, they need to standardize with NATO platforms & calibers…and most of NATO is running some form of AR platform.

Instead of buying from outside (which the Finns are loathe to do), they developed a home-grown platform, and quickly.

Agreed some agencies use military surplus, some use a specific brand or allow the officers to supply/use their own. Depends on budget and the size of the agency
