Hello again, y'all. Just wanted to drop a thread to do a couple of things:
1) Give people information about the Sarsilmaz Sar 9 Socom
2) Give insight on 1st shots
Last Wednesday, I added the Sar 9 Socom (full-size) to my collection. Here are the specs and my first thoughts.
From the factory:
I really like this firearm. It feels great in your hand. I would have thought that the metal slide etc and ultra light polymer frame would make it slightly top heavy, but it's actually very balanced, especially once you put a loaded magazine in. One of the things that drew me to the Sar 9 Socom was the grip features. The sideplates and backstraps are interchangeable and mix/match. With sidearms, I'm a lefty, so I threw the large sideplate on the left side, small sideplate on the right, and the medium backplate, and it fits gloriously in the natural curvature of my hand. The slide serrations and cuts make it super easy to rack, whether you're a front racking or rear racking shooter. Galloway makes a rack assist, but it's completely unnecessary in my opinion. It's got an overtextured spot on both sides of the pistol in the vicinity of where your finger rests when it's straight and off the trigger so you can locate easier in low-light conditions.
First additions:
This past Sunday, I took it to the range with a couple 50rd boxes of Winchester white box target & practice ammo. I shot fast. I shot slow. One-hand. Two-hands. It shot great! That said, I did have one random failure to eject on shot #11 where the round ejected, but not fast enough, so when the slide came back forward with the next round, it chambered the round but the exterior of the slide got stopped by the old casing, not letting it close the breech all the way. Super easy fix, and was definitely an ammunition issue, not the gun itself. I had no issues for the remaining 80-something rounds (pictures below)
Post-range cleaning:
Super easy teardown. Once you clear the weapon, pull the trigger and that unlocks the ability to pull the slide release, and the slide slides right off. There is one part of the cerakoted (factory finish) slide that has chipped (picture below) at some point between getting it last Wednesday and shooting it at the range on this past Sunday. I'm not 100% disheartened because of it, because I actually utilize my firearms and refuse to let them be like a truck that isn't used like a truck (you all know what I mean). I will monitor it. Odds are, I will probably be stripping and reapplying a new cerakote job on it at some point in the next 6 months or so, nothing fancy and I want to keep the OD Green base color but add something like a "ghost" kryptek camo design. Not 100% set on that, though...it's still just a thought in my head. We'll see.
-Shoot straight.

PS: If you're still here. I'd appreciate a comment or two. Share your thoughts, opinions, etc.

Last Wednesday, I added the Sar 9 Socom (full-size) to my collection. Here are the specs and my first thoughts.
From the factory:
- 5.2" threaded barrel with thread protector (optic/suppressor ready).
- 17rd and 20rd magazines (double stack).
- Small, medium, and large grip sideplates and backstraps
- metal flared mag well

First additions:
- Herrington Arms universal compensator
- a little small for my liking, BUT it's effective and works as designed. I will probably switch to the Sar 9 specific compensator from Sarsilmaz if they can ever restock it haha.
- Darkfang flashlight
- Super impressive for the price point.
- 2 hour charge for 2 hour (constant) run time.
- LED battery life indicator
- solid and strobe
- 1500 lumens
- adjustable mounting section allows you to move it forward or backward underneath your firearm.
- My only "con" I would say actually has to do with the firearm. The front of the trigger housing is curved and the back of the flashlight is flat, so it leaves an odd gap between the two. I'd prefer it flush with the trigger housing, but hey, it works, and that's what matters.
