Serial numbers in gun pictures

Does it really matter if we show serial numbers? Unless you have a stolen gun or something, I really don't see the harm in it. Yet everybody seems to do it. I've always done it. Never really questioned it. anyone have any feedback on this? For or against.

Let me ask you this, would you post the VIN number to your vehicle online?
Now granted in public anyone can get your VIN number but online?

I know you're pretty new here, but we have had this conversation a hundred times. Not that we can't have it again. I ain't complaining.

Personally I don't like even posting pictures of guns, but I relented and will do a little of it here. No serial numbers though. Same with guitars. No serial numbers. People get those pictures and use them to scam other people.

where i can see an issue with posting numbers for other to see is, someone etching/stamping them onto another firearm and using it in a crime or report it stolen. it could be very interesting if someone tried that on me as every firearm i own was bought 1st hand new as i'm the og owner and paperwork to prove it. i don't want to post a member on here that's had an issue on a crime related incident, but did have the paperwork to prove innocence.
