Should I Put Optics on My 1911 (or Not)?

My vote would be a YES! Half of my 1911's are optic ready and all 3 wear optics. They were fun to shoot before, and even more fun now. I highly recommend owning at least one 1911 with an optic.

You should do exactly what you want to do, the same as everyone else. Some people like optical sights, some people like flashlights on a firearm, some people like: [Your Idea Here] and there is someone who doesn't like them to match.

It's your gun. Do what makes you happy and move on. Lots of people want them, lots of people don't. That's why there is an optic cut on the slide and that's why there is a piece of steel filling the slot up when it's not used.

FYI, I do have an optic on my 1911 and love it.

For any of you that have gone the optic route on a 1911, do you have a source that can add a cut to a legacy slide? I have a TRP that pre-dates the optic/red dot era and would like to have mine modified but I want a quality job done. I am the at an age now where my eyes benefit from the red dot and since I carry a Hellcat with a dot site and my competition 2011 (open division) also has a dot, I have already made the move to and embraced red dots. I prefer to have consistency across all platforms.

I think you can probably get a pre cut slide from Springfield Armory. I have not used them but C&H precision have a good reputation

Thank you. My slide is OD Green and I don't believe that SA sells them with the color, perhaps they do. My coating was done by the SA custom shop when I sent my 1911 in to have it upgraded to a TRP. I will check if they have an option for this.

I'm 65. I had cataracts surgery 12 years ago on both eyes. Iron sights were instantly problematic. When possible I installed the largest neon yellow front sight, and widest U'notch rear sight possible. Then came my Ronin AOS. 😁 My only 'wish' is that Viridian used a 5moa dot.
