Should I Put Optics on My 1911 (or Not)?

I have one SA TRP AOS 1911 with an optic and several with iron sights. The TRP has become my daily carry, but then it was made for it. I have no intention of molesting my older 1911's, although I did put HD night sights on a 70's Colt Commander. I must accommodate old eyes.

As I have said here before, I have found I am more precise with iron sights, but faster on target with the optic.
 
That’s a hard no for me. But I don’t really care what anyone does only if they can pass a 5 yard roundup or Bakersfield woth whatever they run

And keeping them on a B8 at 25 yards

I liken it to Darryl Bolke’s example, if you can’t make a heart and lung shot a Professional guide isn’t taking you hunting so if you can’t hold adequate groups with your gun/sights/ammo defensive set up you probably need to build some skill over worrying what anyone else runs
 
No! The .45 1911 has been making good guys out of bad ones for 115 years without any electronics being involved, and there is absolutely no reason it can’t continue to do the same thing for the next hundred. You don’t need an optic, a weapons light, or a double stack magazine, you just need to know how to Shoot. You do your part, the 1911 will do its. Always has, always will.

Sure, a highly subjective subject. ;)

For the most part, I think optics look a little out of place on a classic 1911. The right optic on a more modern 1911 or 2011 doesn't look bad. The units in the article looked pretty good to me. I can understand the "old eyes" need for modern optics. If you use your 1911/2011 for self defense or competition, then why not? I've started incorporating optics on a couple of my pistols. I have one 1911 with an optics cut, but I haven't really been thinking about an optic for it. I'll have to find just the right optic unit if I'm going to put one on the Sig 1911X Freedom. Does anyone make a white optic?

Or would an optic really mess up the classic look? Meh, don't ask me. I'm just the bass player.

its a matter of personal preference for sure.

i do have at least 3 guns right now, all 9 mm, that can easily take optics....but none do.

all my 1911's are not cut for optics, and frankly, i'd not want any of them to be so.

i like the style of a single action "cowboy" revolver...which i do have 1.

i like the style of a "cowboy" rifle such as Henry, which i have none.

I like the "general" style of the 1911 as JMB designed it, as i have a few, and internal or external extractor does not bother me in any way....it is STILL a 1911.

todays shooters, want a perfect gun, in a not too perfect world, and you can have what you want, if you got the cash, debit or credit card.

optics is NOT cheating, but for me, i think of the "what if's", with all things electronic, and maybe prone to damages with the constant hammering from the recoil....

can anyway say for sure (and i do not believe anyone can do so), that ALL optics are perfect 1000% of the time...especially under any sort of self defensive need....???

for fun, and target practice, have at it.....

but for me, i'll depend on my eyes, and iron sights.

its how i practice......it's how i carry.

I don't know who the Fudds are in this thread but a good percentage in my herd will likely be more non-Fudd than 98.6% of other participants here, with no drooping barrels.

Certain parts of the herd are configured as originally intended while others are enhanced using KISS principals.
