Springfield Echelon 4.0C Viridian RFX11

So I recently purchased the Springfield Echelon 4.0c gear pack, absolutely love it. However the optic that comes with it, is horrible. The one that came with it, the lens had fell off while firing, this is only day two at the range, contacted Viridian and they sent me a new one. Well the 2nd one the adjustment screws were reversed and could not sight in properly, and would also not hold adjustment after firing. At this point I was fed up and asked for a credit, both Viridian and Springfield told me no. The best they could do is replacement. Point being, don’t waste your money on the gear pack. Just get the Echelon and get a better optic on it. Hard lessoned learned.

Welcome to the forum from the Wild Wild Upper Midwest. I'm glad you found us.

Sure, the bundled optics are not what you would call "high end", just the basics. I got the bundle with my Echelon 4.5F Comp. It came with a Hex Wasp. It is your basic red dot with only an on/off switch. It zero'd just fine. I took it to the range a few times. It worked fine. But I replaced it with a green Holosun 507c-X2. I'll keep the Hex Wasp and eventually put it on one of my .22 pistols, just to plink around with it.

Go ahead and take the replacement. Get a better optic and put the Veridian on one of your beater guns. I think the "gear up" deal is worth it just for the extra magazines. ;) There are other decent optics out there that are not too crazy expensive (Primary Arms, anyone?), but you usually get what you pay for.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Yes I totally I agree, I wouldn’t call it “high end either”, but also didn’t expect to have 2 malfunctioning optics right out the door. I mean their website list the optic for around 200-250 by itself, figure that might be in the decent range. Wasn’t expecting anything high end just a decent working optic. But all in all just trying to help the next person who might be curious about getting a gear pack from the trouble and or just even awareness that if they are looking to purchase it because of the optic that the optic itself isn’t the greatest. But who knows maybe it’s just dumb luck that I got two bad ones from the get go. If I had to do it all over I would have just bought the Echelon by itself and bought a different brand for an optic.

The annoying thing about this is that Viridian actually makes a couple of good green dots, but the RFX11 is not one of them. Everybody bundles it like they’re doing you a good deal, when it is known for the window popping out among other things.

Guess I got lucky, I got the same package and have put over 1k rounds through it and used it for range shooting, shoot house action and has replaced my Hellcat Pro as my primary CCW, and not a single problem, and thou may be a "cheap red dot" it's been dead on out to 25 yards, and never has failed.

I'd agree with others, pack is good for the mags and bag. If you don't like the sight sure you can sell it and get one you like.

I got that same package on one not long ago, it was already mounted. only have 100 rounds through it. while i don't like not being able to take battery out without removing sight and not being able to turn it off, it is what it is. SA hasn't a good rep for their cheap crappy sights in the ger up packs. i bought a ST Victor 308 and sent off for the pack which was a joke. a single point sling. now who is going to use a single point sling on a heavy full size 308. one mag which was used. and a 40 dollar crimson trace dot which was broken upon arrival. i didn't even bother sending it back. i trashed it. they send a cheap 40 sight for a 1200 dollar 308. lol

Ya and there is times that it just feels like dumb luck that I got 2 bad ones out the door. I mean I have experienced that myself with other products where I was fortunate to have a good one while others raved about bad experiences. And personally I have become a fan of Vortex. I have purchase the Copperhead 3-9x40 scope and the Spitfire 1x both have been amazing. Looking to put a vortex optic on the Echelon going forward. And to be honest I’m new to purchasing optics so I don’t have a lot of testimonials to rave about.

The unfortunate part of the RFX11 was that it was designed specifically for the echelon. And I agree, the battery is in a not so great position. But also from what I was told, so I could be mistaken, but the optic supposedly turns off while in a downward position and also when movement is idle for X amount of time. But my only thought is if you are using the echelon or whatever firearm you are using for a CCW then it would just be constantly engaging the optic to turn on while carrying…
