The SIg Controversy

Tangof1!

Operator
I have two, a P320 Full Size with an optic and a P320 Compact. Both are good guns. Reliable and accurate with triggers out of the box better than most. The thing is DO THEY GO OFF BY THEMSELVES? I've been following this for the past year or so and the consensus from Gun Dealers, Gunsmiths, and your average owner is NO. A few Gun Shop owner's went so far as to say that those in the industry know this but use the fear to promote it. Why? To sell higher priced guns and to buy Sig trade-ins cheaply. They have pointed out "Glock Leg" as a background. Sig of course swears up and down their 320's are SAFE. I'm keeping mine.

In over 50 years of shooting, I've seen two, that's right, two malfunctions that could be attributed to the firearms. Two 1911s that had worn parts, specifically the sears. One let go in a match and the other was mine and let the hammer follow the slide home when a single round was in the chamber.

Any others I saw or heard about were operators error. Getting clothes in the way of holstering, fingers in the way, etc. And cops have been known to kill picnic tables, among other stuff like concrete floors and door frames.

Bottom line, the booger hook was on the bang switch when it ought not to have been. I will admit, I know nothing of the newer Sig models, but I suspect the shooters are more responsible than admitting.

It is a manufactured controversy. Since 1970, I investigated or supervised investigations of some unintended discharges. Many started with "it just went off". But ended with a finger or something else in the trigger guard. Rifles, revolvers, shotguns, semi-auto pistols, 1911's, Glocks, an M60, they were all susceptible to human negligence. The only handgun I am aware of that fired itself without operating the trigger or without being subject to impact was a Taurus 24/7

Personally, I definitely think there is an issue and Sig knows about it.
All industries have examples of this happening
A company makes a product with known flaws and buries their head in the sand
It's a regular thing in the auto industry

There's a reason that Lena Miculek and Max Michel left Sig, and I doubt it was for money

They knew something was going on and abandoned ship.

Personally, I don't think it's the P320 itself. I think it's bad discipline and improper gear like 99% of the instances i've seen. However, The just absolute doubling down, blaming everyone in public, refusing to "look into it" because they couldn't possibly be wrong and filing lawsuits against agencies banning them is such a bad look. It's hard to support Sig anymore.

I sold the couple of P320 variants I had long before this exploded (no pun intended), but I simply will no longer buy Sig products until they start treating their customers the way they should. I've bought atleast 11-12 firearms from them in the last 4-5 years, so it hurts to see them just **** on everyone in the civilian/LEO markets. They truly do not care about the civilian/commercial market. Military Contracts are the only things they care about.
