This neat, very radical from the normal pistol designs, almost like a blowback, but piston driven……very interesting

I'm intrigued by this design, looks like something that would be worth further investigation and the MSRP is reasonable. A bit hefty for a carry gun @ 2.47lbs but good for home defense I'd think.

I'm going to have to see if any of my LSG's are carrying this bad devil so I can take a closer look. :)

i dunno, like the new D/W 9mm @ nearly 2 grand, this RIA (and i have had 2 RIA 1911's, and liked them), i'd rather spend that money on a 1911, in 45 ACP.

other than ccw, that my Hellcat has it's job for, i have been weening off the 9mm caliber.

and if prices of more 9mm's top the 1 grand point, that'll certainly for me, kill off any interest in them.

According to the manuf website the RIA 5 base model MSRP is only $998 , the limited edition “c” optics only is like $1200-$1600.

I see a lot of design elements and appearance of a CZ pistol. Not knowing a lot about CZ and seeing RIA copies the 1911 and others designs, like the ParaOrnance P14 double stack 1911, that they call their 1911A2 High Capacity, is it a copy of a CZ pistol?

FWIW: The locking design is covered by US Patent #10,018,433B2.

The bevel on the end of the guiderod meets an opposing bevel within the "piston" locking piece, camming it vertically out of alignment with the front of the barrel. The piston is held in place by the dustcover of the frame. The piston cannot move down to unlock until it clears the crosspin seen at the bottom front corner of the frame. The crosspin also helps return the piston to its locked position as the slide and barrel go back into battery.

No.

But—RIA does make a CZ75 clone.
No they don't.

The MAPP MS has an outward similarity to the CZ design approach but it's not a clone (the most misused & abused term in the firearms world) since, other than 9mm ammo, no parts are cross-compatible.

The author in this, makes the same assumptions, albeit wrong.

Even the Tangfolio's are not clones, but look-a-likes, since the internals are not cross compatible.
