Tipping

So I just went to a Micro Brewery for lunch. You order your food at the counter, they give you a glass for you (non alcoholic) drink and a number to take to the table. They tell you your total then a screen pops up with tipping amounts (25% 20% 15% OTHER but no NONE). You are paying the tip BEFORE the service and I guess you are supposed to guess how good the service will be.

I was tempted to complain but of course the food hadnt been prepared and that brings on its own issues. So I gave in a put in 15%. The food was delivered fairly quick and it was fine BUT being asked to tip BEFORE seems worse than asking for a tip in this kinda place. Its like Starbucks having you pay for the tip before you get the coffee....almost extortion as in PAY ME or your order may be Fd Up, instead of that was great service, heres a little extra for you

At least in Subway you watch your meal being prepared THEN have the option of tipping

i think it might be for at least 2 reasons...

1) convenience to pay all at one time

2) to avoid leaving money on the table and have someone swipe if from the server, making you look like a jerk, for not tipping.

i do not, have not, and will not go to starpukes for a cup of coffee, that i can get cheaper at DD, Burger King, Micky D's, or a small diner

i do not leave TIPS at coffee places.

i might (and many times do) leave a TIP at the bakery i go to, for the gal to slice the pizza strips, put together my pastry order, box or wrap things as i ask...they do that for me, then i certainly do TIP.

and i always TIP 20%

same with the pizza delivery people here.....you'd be surprised, they deliver to a lot of frat houses and sorority houses, and the college kids hardly TIP, not thier fault, they don't get enough from mom and dad, or they blow thier money on other things.

pizza guys from the 3 places i order from get here in minutes, each time they see my address...

come christmas time.>??

an instant TIP of 20% PLUS a $50 christmas TIP.

my neighborhood isn't the greatest, and i TIP them well for that reason.

When I was working subway was a frequent stop, the one at the truck stop was open all night and I " could watch" them make my sammich. Never considered giving a tip for something I stood at the counter to order.
true that, they do get paid at least minimum wage, not like a real server that gets less, and the TIPS make up the difference.

Im sure youre correct....but this was the kinda place the customers clean up their own mess (dump thier tray in the trash can). Yes someone has to wipe the table and maybe straighten the chairs but the ONLY service is bringing out the food on a tray to the table.

Im not a Starbucks fan either; but they are a recognizable safe location to meet potential clients AND you get to tell them your name is "Lesco Brandon", so the libtards have to call out Lets Go Brandon with a smile

Working a fast food job should not lead to a life long career serving food or working the counter. The best tip I can give is to find a better paying job. An income based on getting by on customers pocket change is not sustainable in today’s economy unless one is cognitively impaired and that’s the best they can do. We live in a world where we have to pay up front for almost everything before we get our hands on it. Paying a tip for food of questionable quality before you eat it just adds insult to injury. I guess any day now I should expect to have to have a tip included on my ticket for the Kroger lady who rings up my groceries as well as the kid who bags them. Seems to be no end to the scheme’s businesses come up with to get our money.

I would add working as ANY food server should not be an aspiring career. Sure there are folks who do it but I doubt they do it by choice.

I think Im a good tipper, especially for exceptional service and of course if the waitress is friendly. The last time I was in So Afrika we had an amazing an amazing waiter in a steak house. He was smart enough to be there when we needed him and when to leave us alone. After a fantastic evening of drinks before dinner, the meal, desert, and coffee after the meal for the two of us was just over $100 US. I gave him $200. He said hed be right back with the change. I told him that the change was for him because he knew when to be there and when not to be which was just as important.

It was our honeymoon so I was generous but that kind of service needed to be encouraged. He must have said something to the manager, who caught us while we were waiting for the car. The manager asked if we had understood the currency? I said we did and we'd be back because the meal was great and so was the service.

In that case, the wife and I never tip. It is like a Culver's or Portillo's, where you order, pay for your order, and Culver's gives you a numger and they deliver to your table, whereas Portillo's gives you your receipt with a number on it, calls your number and you go up to the counter and pick up your food. Both cases you seat yourself, get your own fountain drink, and put your own trash in the can.

I only tip delivery drivers, at sit down restaurants where you are actually served, a bartender, and my barber. Actual service or delivery gets a tip. Everybody else can go pound sand.

we only tip if we sit and are served
thats sounds mean, but it is not
our fav for pizza is actually very nice place, but they also have takeeee outeee
i may drop a few bucks in the jar at the counter where you pay IF i have a large order or multiple bags
but if its the giant pizza and a salad then no

when we sit to eat , order etc
tip is after and we are processing the bill either at the table or at the counter, a few mom and pop places we go, you pay at the counter when you leave

I made my tipping totally based on the service provided .... I don't consider standing at a counter and ordering my drink or meal service.
Bad service, bad tip
Good service, good tip
Excellent service, excellent tip
It’s like blackmail if you don’t tip you have no idea what they are doing to your food in the kitchen. So in effect you are bribing them to not mess with your food
