Tumble on Impact ammo

Anybody have experience with the Fort Scott TUI rifle ammo. I just ordered some 762x39 so I hope it works. I tried it in my PPK but it seems a smig too long

I agree with a lot of the experts. This whole “Tumble on impact” “RIP” and a lot of others is pure marketing BS

If you want something serious for defense just do research to what LE agencies use something similar for your caliber. I get I can’t think of any running 7.62x39 but you get the suggestion

It’s a free country to market nonsense, there are some that but I timit

My thinking is that a tumbling bullet creates a larger permanent wound channel much more so than a fragmenting round. Fort Scott "markets" the ammo as solid copper and of course that it tumbles upon impact. It IS pricey but less so than some "performance" brands.

I dont know how well it performs but I am impressed with ammo that tumbles vs ammo that expands The original military load for the M16 (IM193) 55gr was/is ballistically pretty good stuff. The Soviet 545x39 round is also reputably good stuff because of its configuration (weight at the base) and hollow space behind the tip. The pics Ive seen show the bullet bent causing it to tumble

I ordered a few boxes for testing. My first PRIORITY is that it feeds and functions and that is reasonably accurate out to 200 meters. After that of course Id love it to act like a chainsaw....Hahaha we'll see, Ive certainly wasted more $$$ on worse things

Yeah the whole special extra destruction ammo is mostly marketing or only works with mixed results in certain laboratory conditions. 7.62x39 fmj is more than enough to give a target a bad day by itself. But if the price is right I'll buy any ammo of its cheap and it fires. The steel and paper targets at my range have zero prejudice to what impacts them.

You never know until you try it. Your cash your choice. In the end any shooting is just turning money into sound. Most people including myself in this thread haven't tested these types of ammo and only heard about the results from them through reading or videos.

Maybe Ill try it on a Pig Hunt? Im usually a Big Bore guy when it comes to pigs but thats likely the only way Id have to "test" it

I have some in 9mm, 45 acp, 45 Colt, 38+P and 5.56 solid brass. The only thing I have shot is steel or water jugs. Never had one fail to go bang. FWIW. Their video of firing 10,000 rds through a new, straight from the box CZ P10C in one outing is what caused me to buy the pistol. Maybe the German Army saw that video too?

Biggest thing i have against it is, stuff only comes in 20 round boxes and it's usually twice the price of a 50 round box of other ammo.

The funny thing while I wouldn’t recommend ball ammo, ball isn’t quite as anemic and over penetration as some think. Ball ammo also uses causing a somewhat similar wound as when a JHP expands but not quite as much.

But again they market BS and people buy into it for twice the price

I keep a lot of FMJ around and I wouldnt be upset if I only had FMJ for carry ammo. Hit LOCATION is what matters. My STEn never liked anything but FMJs, so since then I run all my military weapons with FMJs, from STEn, to Sterling, Skorpion, MP5, and Colt 635/633 DOE

I was impressed with the ORIGINAL Black Talon, until they neutered it because ER Docs were complaining about getting cut on the sharp edges when probing wounds with their fingers. The I shot a Wild Boar with a 44mag Black Talon and it hardly twitched. I hit the shoulder and it barely penetrated.

It IS pricey but so is a lot of specialized self defense ammo. Critical Defense/Duty only comes in 25 round boxes.

I paid $3.00 per round for Black Fang Dragon rounds in 5.7x28 once I saw the ballistic tests. When it arrived I shot 3 rounds to confirm it worked and shot to aim, then keep a couple mags loaded and ready.

It comes in a big box that youd expect to hold 50 rounds but every other hole is empty

5.7x28 is one of the cartridges that I dont want to expand. 5.7 is designed to penetrate and THATS what I want it to do! The Black Dragon rounds penetrate then break apart for two separate wound tracts

Hasn't arrived yet but as mentioned in the other thread I will be trying in my 30-30. Will try at the range on arrival hoping for better luck than @Belt Fed

This is a a Fort Scott video (so take that for what its worth) shooting 7.62x39 out of a 20" barrel. The effects look good to me. Is it worth $2.00 a shot...IDK

Below is Wolf HP in gel GB prices from $.75 to $1.50+ per round

Hornady Zombie rounds GB prices varied from $3.50 to $7.00 per round

Well my 30-30's arrived today and hopefully will shoot a few in the next couple weeks. I do know that if they fire the odds of tumbling increase :)
