Rifle companies like Remington really shouldn't try to enter the pistol world... Just like handgun companies generally shouldn't enter the rifle/shotgun world. Remington is a shining example of that.

I've got a couple of R1 1911s, from NY and Huntsville. They needed minor tweeking on the break-in, but they are a primary carry now.

LoL, Remington started making handguns in 1850 something.
So the second Remington Model 51 didn't fair as well, it happens.

I’ll agree the new R 51 from Remington was a flop. Which was probably victim to being released at a time when the company had a lot of QC issues (even with kings tha ding products that were cataloged with strong sales for decades) and financial issues.
So that said one should probably look at companies history. Several that might be primarily rifle or handgun makers today have made both or started with the other in the 1800’s or early 1900’s.

Savage had their 1907 that was a contender and faired well in the military trials of 1911.
Companies consolidated or discontinued stuff off and on even back then.

They don't MAKE their pistols though, do they? Aren't they outsourced to a company in Croatia or something? And yes, their 1911's are Superb, but that isn't their design.

True, but then the AR wasn’t a Colt either (ARmalite) but Colt built an awful lot of them for military and civilian market. I really don’t care who makes a firearm. A good design with quality manufacturing will be a decent produce. Poor QC and doesn’t matter how good the design, the gun will suck.

Springfield makes there 1911’s, the SA-35 had the frames and slides made by Tisas at one time, but all of there 1911’s are made by Springfield itself
