What are the customer lines like at CMP sales?

I'd love to get me one of the Army 1911s at this sale, but it's too dang far away. 15-20 patrons at a time. Has anyone been to one of these sales, and how crazy is it, as far as waiting lines, etc?

I've never been. I don't know about you, but I think it would at least be interesting to look around. I'd be curious. But yeah, if it's too far away that would take all the fun out of it. What kind of prices are we talking? What is the condition of the pistols?

I would expect to see really low prices because of the last line. From my experience with CMP, albeit 30 years ago, lower than auction or range grade is going to be a parts gun, that may be different makers and different years of production. Accuracy can probably best be measured by minute of enemy at 15 yds. I suspect the guns will need plenty of love. Just my opinion and I have been wrong before and will be again.

I bought two Garands from them and they were both graded very good and they certainly are. They stick close to their grading system and I would think these are bottom of the barrel .45's and you'

ll be taking a chance.

If you want to shoot a reliable 1911 buy a new Colt. If you want a 1911 that might have parts that spans more than 50 years of U.S. history buy one from CMP. Remember frames and slides weren’t heat treated until the mid 40’s, and most of these 1911s will be mix masters that have been refinished probably more than once.

I live an hr away, the store always has lines, weirdly they allow more than 20 people in at a time normally. You need to show up early for something like this. Down the road the store at the CMP range is better than the actual CMP store by itself

Same prices as the mail order, the conditions are used to very used with all mixed parts depending on rebuild dates

This times 3 $1500 for this mixbag was not worth it, sure it’s a real GI but that only goes so far. I know people who got some gems round 1, but now round 4/5 and now just public sale in the store these are leftovers.

I'd be in it for historical value is all. Top grade was $1,200 or $1,300 if I recall. Still will have mixed parts and blemishes. I'm happy with the "US Army" on it, "US Government"...whatever signifies it was a issued weapon.
