What are we reading?

Hi,

Just started this.

Thank you for your indulgence,

It that's me a while to read a book since it's usually while I'm waiting on my wife while in my truck.

Finished recently: Patriots (again)
Black Autumn Series of 10 books
The Sterile Earth by J.W. Bianchi

Currently,: Secret of Secrets, Dan Brown
Next up: Art of War, Sun Tzu (again)

Magazines thrown in as well, have about 8-9 in my truck waiting

Finished these, so thought I’d read this again with most of the originally one third dropped parts added back in. It’s been since the early 1980s that I read the original, so looking forward to it. Figured it might be a good summer project as the triple digits arrive in West Texas this week!

So finished rereading this today. It seemed to hit different after living through COVID. Especially near the end where one protagonist is explaining to another how with the “old” flu, after being vaccinated, people developed the antibodies they needed and they were good until a completely new “type” of flu developed over next few years, then a different vaccine was necessary to produce new antibodies; whereas with the “superflu” AKA Captain Trips, that killed almost everyone, it changed within a person’s body to defeat any antibodies that developed (in those that weren’t immune). The latter “almost” sounds like COVID, IMO. And I have always been a “lab leak” believer!

And of course, the same classic ending (before the few page epilogue) - “Do you think … do you think people ever learn anything?” “I don’t know.” Struggling to say something more; to illuminate her first response; and could only say it again: “I don’t know.”

Glad I took the time to reread it, additional 30% and all. Time well spent!
