At 3:00, I’ll just be hitting 24 hours of being up...I’m usually good until I hit about 28.

And, I’m gonna be out for a few weeks dealing with some medical stuff (not mine), so this just is the cherry on top.

Dug up an old leaky steel service. Turns out the tee for the house across the street is in the same hole and also leaking. These are old bolt on tees. So instead of simply boring in one new service I need to bore two in and I need these bolt on tees pinned ( removed and the tap holes pinned and welded shut) and two new weld on tees welded on. Yesterday was a long day and today will be too.

No this is not me, it’s a laborer cleaning and lubing these old tees so they come off easier today.

Wow, that's some real manly work right there. What kind of precautions do you take when welding on gas lines? Do you have to shut off the neighborhood? I can only imagine the chaos that could ensue with a welder and a gas main. Take care.

After the new services are installed. Main has been primered and is getting ready to be wrapped with green line. Which in conjunction with cathodic protection will keep it from rusting.

We have a fire extinguisher sitting by the hole. We interrupt the two services I’m working on by removing the tees from the bolt on saddles and beating a steel pin into the tap holes. Then we unbolt the saddles and slide them off over the pins. Then weld the pins into the holes ( this is where you have fire shooting up from around the pins). Then cut the pins down flush. Then the new weld on tees are welded on where I need them for the service lines.


The only time we would ever shut down a neighborhood would be in an emergency situation. After an explosion or like when the tornado came through STL and leveled all the buildings in its path.
 
Went out to range and Hellcat is now good to carry. Stopped by Albertsons and got the shot. It's a new one for this year. Came home, picked up Maggie and went to Lowes. Just finished a light lunch and will go and go over backyard again with lawnmower as it will be raining most of the weekend here.

Yeah, that's pretty tricky how you can disable service for just one or two households, keeping the rest of the neighborhood in service and safe as well. Nice work.

I have been a busy old fart last couple days. this was my day today. went to the woods to cut a tree up, took the 4 wheeler cause i thought i was gonna hafta tote it out to the truck by it cause the ditches and trees in the way. so i go over there and clear out a trail for the wheeler with the battery saw.

Then go back and bring the wheeler back and wife drives the truck. it's not 500 yards from my house. i had to show her how to start the truck and put it in drive. she can't remember how. anyway we get there and i fire up the 261 stihl and cut a bit and get to thinkin forget this back and forth with the wheeler. i'm gettin this truck back here. so i do some more cutting and i had to zig zag around trees backing up. finally got back there. now i didn't know how it was gonna work coming out with a load so the first one was a tad over half full. it came out fine. this is bottomland hardwoods and the ground is pretty soft.

I be gettin too old to be pickin up them 100 pound chunks.

So now the trunk is left, after i unload all that wood i fix us a sammich and grab the bigger saw, 400 stihl with a 25 inch bar. this time i get a full load and noodled the big chunks down so i can handle them better i can't pick up the 2 and 3 hundred pound suckers like i used too.
