$1500 - $2000 is what it would cost for me and my buddy to replace the torque converter. I don't know what it would cost to buy a reconditioned transmission, new transmission or to have that one rebuilt, but I guarantee it is a lot more than that.and...depending on the year, and mileage and condition of the trans fluid.......a trans overhaul may be recommended.
if that happens, tell them you want your transmission rebuilt, not someone else's.
unless that's what you meant when you said a "$2,000 job".....

Thankfully that doesn't seem to be the case. My buddy could tell by the fluid that it has been serviced before. How long before is anyone's guess. The thing with the torque converters on these cars is well known. It could also have been the torque converter clutch. The fact that the friction fortifying lube we put in stopped the problem indicates it is a fluid problem, not a torque converter problem.
