When Size and Performance Meet Concealability

If a gun is 1911 inspired, but scaled down, is it a true 1911?
1911 inspired design. Even if they call it a 1911 like my Browning.

It's still a 1911-type, and small 1911-types have been around for a long time. Browning scaled things down for their .380 1911.

But Springfield thought it was time to design a new version of the 1911 specifically for the modern ammunition of choice, the 9mm round.

Message to the author: The 9mm Luger has been around since 1901 (122 years).

I would have been more impressed if this EMP was chambered in a "real" modern cartridge like the .30 Super = smaller overall sized pistol with near equal power and more capacity.

As a Lefty, I noticed a distinct lack of an ambi-saftey on this thing. C'mon.
And as an owner of three 1911s: compact, officer's, and Gov't models ALL are chambered the way
John Moses Browning wanted them to be chamber: 45ACP! IMHO a 1911 in 9mm is an insult to the platform!
Well, according to you then the .38super or 10mm are insults to the 1911 since they’re not .45…….. there is nothing wrong with a 9mm 1911, I have a couple amongst my .45 1911’s, nothing wrong with them.

They redesigned the 1911 and made it smaller to fit the 9mm round. That ain't a real 1911. :(
You want a middle bore 1911? Get a 38 Super.
You want a SA 9mm? Get a Hi-Power.
Ah, both of my 9mm 1911’s, SA RO Operator and Kimber Custom II are regular full size, not a downsized 1911 and I have a SA-35 that’s works some of the time

The moral of the 1911 story to the non-.45 acp detractors is the 1911 has been chambered in the 9mm & 38 Super for many, many years.

The 1911 was first chambered in 9mm in 1950. (~73 years ago.)

In 1929, Colt introduced a new version of their M1911 pistol, called the Colt “Super .38” Automatic. (~94 years ago)

From the article:
"When Springfield set out to make the EMP series, they didn’t just take standard 1911 and employ the 9mm cartridge. For improved reliability and performance, the Ronin EMP is designed specifically around the 9mm. Springfield engineers designed 11 proprietary parts for the EMP, including the frame, magazines, firing pin and the slide to name just a few. Where others simply fit the smaller 9mm into a .45-sized pistol, Springfield set out to not necessarily re-design the 1911 as a whole but to specifically tailor it to modern 9mm ammunition available today. The result is a scaled-down 1911 designed specifically for the 9mm round."
